Please nothing that resembles anime.
Dragon age origins is pretty damn good. I highly recommend it
Try Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, as it is a stellar game. Best RPG of 2004 I think.
I'd also recommend Dragon Age: Origins, Borderlands (Not much story but fun nevertheless), and Mass Effect.
No matter what your weaknesses are, make sure your own abilities supersede them.

I got nothing.
What's wrong with anime anyway?
Animephobia.
Oblivion 4 is pretty good, its a midevil one by the Fallout 3 people, its fun to play as a theif in it!
Society sucks, humanity sucks, life is pointless, accomplishments mean nothing in the long run, but being depressed about it wont change that!

Highly reccomend Oblivion, it's a great game. Just don't make your character a vampire.
Well since you ruled out ALL Final Fantacy titles as well as the Tales series....
I have to sugest Paper Mario (the first one), Diablo (its an old PC game), or you can try an MMORPG like Runescape (Free to Play), or World of Warcraft (pay to Play).

then fuck off, get the fuck out of fucking dumbass. stop ruling out shit you don't consider worthy, if you know what the fuck an rpgee is, why fucking ask in the first place.
shiiiiiiiiiiieeeettt...

Anime as a whole doesn't have trouble with anything, because it is far too disparate to talk of as a group. Individual anime might, while others might not.
In any case, refusing to play anything with an anime aesthetic will just make you miss out on some great gems like Final Fantasy VII, or Star Ocean 2.
Good RPG's?
Okay then.Get some info about the games before you try them though, because they're very different from each other...
Medieval ones:
Gothic 3 (I personally don't like it but a lot of people do)
Neverwinter Nights 2 (based on D&D lore)
The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion+Shivering Isles (officially the best modern RPG ever)
Dragon Age: Origins (very engaging story and characters, has a mature feel)
Sci-Fi
Mass Effect 1&2 (very good RPG-FPS hybrids with the special touch of Bioware)
Final Fantasy XIII (very action-based, VERY long cutscenes, if you're not into JRPG's you won't like it)
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 2+Chaos Rising (very good RPG/RTS based on the W40k universe)
Well, that's it for now...I don't want to flood you with choices, you already have a lot of deciding to do :P

thanks a lot man, yeah i am looking into warhammer and since everyone seems to mention dragon age i'll give it a shot.
thanks all
STALKER Shadows of Chernobyl is similar to Fallout 3 except not as fun or good in my opinion. Although its very very frustrating at times as many of the systems such as bullet physics suck, so I would suggest if you can, get a retail version or get a trainer or proper mods working for it, it wouldn't be that bad then. Its also pretty cheap.
You can play a free mmorpg game on your computer created by Aeria Games.
They have many games, such as Grand Fantasia and 12 Sky, with over 13 million user worldwide. You can download any of their games on their website (shown below) They have many unique MMOs that will catch anyones interest.
Here's a link to the website:

I've wasted so many hours of my life playing Morrowind.
Why are people suggesting MMORPGs?
The topic title says "Good RPG games".
I have no game to suggest myself, most of the ones I like have been suggested already. You could just put yer thumb up yer ass and wait for Fallout: New Vegas, if you feel like it, too.

Then you are operating under a flawed definition. That is to say, your definition of 'RPG' is wrong.
'RPG' as a video game genre means a game that has a large focus on stat building. That is the definition of 'RPG' as it applies to video games.
'Choice' has never been considered an integral part of 'RPG' games. 'Choice' is more or less a recent invention in the genre. The genre existed before choosing your path in a video game did.
I could say that the term 'RPG' means games that involve two dudes fighting crime, and then argue that a bunch of games don't fall under the definition.
if you don't think graphics make the game good like a fucking 5 year old, get Baldur's Gate, it's the greatest PC series of all time, bar none
The Truth.
but seriously why is this shit still only 3 lines shit used to be 5 lines, HOW MUCH MORE FUCKIN BANDWIDTH WAS THAT TOM, HOW MUCH? Also, hot rosalina porn link ;D

Dragon Origins is good when you play a spellcaster. Any other class, you die 2 missions in the game.
I end threads.
Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowwind
Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion
Torchlight
Diablo 2 + Expansion
Fallout 3
Thats it. Dragon Age has a bland story, bland characters and the combat seems like it's stuck in the dark ages (no pun intended). It's very unbalanced combat wise and, like I said, the Story is very cliche.
Not saying it's the worst game ever and your a moron for owning it, but it's over hyped and isn't suspenceful
It is ok to make fun of America. But if you make fun of any other country in a vague or joking way you get banned.

All of them good except Torchlight, which is a Diablo wannabe, has no story and is, overall, boring.

So you're saying that all of the great RPG classics on SNES aren't RPGs because most of them, you don't really have much choice in changing the storyline.
Yet a game that allows you to change the story depending on your actions, yet have no stat building or whatsoever is a RPG.
So by your logic I suppose GTA 4 is a RPG, since you have some choices in it which changes the ending. Streets of Rage is a RPG as well, after all, you can choose to kill your partner and become the boss of crime right?
shit's amazing

Maybe if you suck....although I distinctly remember a mission where you had to beat like 20 guardsmen plus a boss at the same time..and I didn't have any way of healing myself before or during the battle (used up all my items and had no mana), so I was forced to cheat to get past that part...

I was a tank and ad no problem whatsoever... Well, I must admit that Shale AoE spell kicked ass... Only used it in the final boss fight, and I did a good choice.
