I looked back at my old post and was disgusted by how I was back then. But, I got better and better because I looked and saw how the regulars typed and noticed that they would berate me when my grammar was off. I was forced to type with better grammar or else you guys would be dicks about it.
NG has also made fart and dick jokes unfunny for me. Some of the really good ones ( that regulars and mods do) get me sometimes. But I no longer think that just a dick is funny. I have came here everyday for a long time and now after see you guys joke about it all the time it just isn't funny.
NG got me good at arguing. People would call me out and I had to get a word in. At first my points and insults were horrid, but the longer I was on here the better and better I got. I think this place actually made me smarter. A few threads will actually make me think, and sometimes a person will post a word I don't know the meaning to and I will look it up.

Kinda the same thing for me too. I used to type like a retard, basically because I didn't care to much, but after awhile, I started caring what I typed and how it looked. So I typed all proper and shit.
I can't agree about the dick thing though. Dicks make me giggle like a 10 year old. I even draw dicks on things, and make dick monsters.

Makes sense. I think sites like NG certainly do lead people to improve their spelling, grammar, intelligence, etc. Especially through their teenage years.
From what I remember of school, as soon as the bell rang, people stopped caring about spelling things right or acting 'mature' or whatever, and their past times in the evening rarely required them to write or type or anything like that. With the NG BBS, a lot of teenagers come on here on an evening after they've been at school all day, and without realising it they continue to learn and develop their intelligence, literacy and maturity to a certain extent.
People might be talking about something completely non-school related, like video games or celebrity news or whatever, but the capacity for debate is still there, and like the OP said, if you don't know what a word means you can look it up straight away. It's almost like learning unconsciously.
That cake is awesome. I have always used proper grammar on these forums. It's something that i'm really OCD about. My posts are rather concise though. I can't be bothered with writing paragraphs at a time unless i'm reviewing flash here.

I also don't know if NG made me more mature or if it happened as I grew up. Could be a mixture. I became more interested in politics from NG, though.

NG changed the way I interact with people, probably for the better. I don't even want to go back and look at my old posts. I might cry. Not for the reasons you might think though, but because I was still innocent and didn't know shit about the internet.
It helped me effectively communicate my thoughts.
Now I'm majoring in English.

I learned how to be even more of a smart ass and how to cut people down because of NG. Which isn't really a bad thing. I sometimes can come up with a pretty good debate on here.

Actually I completely agree with you, and I too feel the same way about Newgrounds. Growing up on this site and with these people really gave me a lot of perspective and also served as an unbiased source to seek advice as well as information. Obviously not everything can be attributed to Newgrounds, but I honestly and completely believe that a lot of who I am today (As far as intelligence, debate, perspective, etc.) can be traced to my excessive use of Newgrounds.
I also found out about a ton of amazing bands and whatnot through this forum. I owe you guys a lot.

Maturity is a natural progression. You would have probably grown out of jokes about dicks and farts etc. without NG. I mean, there not really that funny anyways and the vast majority of the population seem to get over them without the assistance of NG.I never really found them funny in the first place (maybe cause i'm gay?).
Also, grammar and construction of arguments tend to progress with age anyways, independent of NG. I don't think it was necessarily this site in particular, but just the experience of structuring replies to things. I.e, I think you probably would have learned what you know now from posting on other internet forums as well. I think the same is true for debate and discussion skills.
I'm not trying to discredit NG, rather just suggest that it might not have been NG in particular.
