Actually quite an interesting thread because i have always thought the main reason i don't have a mac is the price, though i would still have to go for a PC as i have been using them for years and they seem alot simpler in my warped British teenager eyes.
Model you say, most probably a rig made from al sorts of epik stuff.
I'd build a PC.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the best graphics card available in even the most expensive Mac is the Radeon 4870 512MB, and I'm running the 1GB version of the card already, on a pretty average build that cost ~£750.
I don't know about other components, but I imagine the situation is pretty similar.
A PC. Doesn't matter what model, I'm simply to used to using them, and will probably never convert to macs.

probably wait for the new line of macbook pros, and buy one of those. Towers are on their way out, so I don't see much interest in building a nice gaming pc if it's just going to be chained to my desk. Everything I need runs on a mac so I wouldn't need to step outside my comfort zone with a PC

well, if you have SUTCH a hardon for macs, just make a hackentosh. pc got more power
but if are talking about laptop, i like my window visa studio 1555. how ever it died and it new one has no blue tooth card suport :(

Also doesnt exist.
100 TB HD
not yet

Nope
20 inch monitor
Lol.
Also.
PC, but i'd buy every component to the button.
No cash limit?
I'd probably still go with a PC. The choices of hardware are more open-ended and I can partition the hard disk to run other operating systems if I want. I do appreciate some of the applications that come with Macs, but I like some of the things that only PCs offer as well. When I say "PC", I mean "Windows" since they're both PCs, really.
I'd get a PC with Windows 7, Ubuntu, and maybe another OS. Then I'd add two 1TB hard drives along with my old hard drive, 2 DVD/CD-ROM drives, 1 floppy drive, and a blu-ray drive. Then I'd put a 3.33Ghz CPU into an overclock-enabled motherboard with two graphics cards that are able to connect three computer monitors. It'd have 12 USB 3.0 ports and 3 Firewire ports. This would all be powered by a 850W power supply and be cooled by liquid cooling in the custom-built computer chassis...

Logic man now
I never heard anybody say towers are going to be gone. Notebooks cant handle as much raw power as towers can so they will never be phased out.
Unlimited budget?
I'd build my own computer, custom tailored to me. Top-of-the-line quad core AMD processors, latest ATI graphics card, best wireless adapter and audio card, more RAM than you can count, multiple hard drives, CD-DVD burn drives, a cluster of USB ports, and all kept in working order by a liquid cooling system and dust-removing fan assembly.
Then I'd run it on Linux, and pay every software company in existence to make their software Linux-compatible.
And I would be happy.

Firewire has been disabled in every Microsoft OS since XP, so dont bother wasting the time, unless you have XP partitoned onto one of your drives. Also, it's pointless unless you're using your rig mainly to make music/video. Also, drop the floppy drive and get a 3.4ghz intel processor.

Right now it's the largest you can fit in a Macbook is the NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M with 512MB chip, but the tower's can have up to 4 NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 cards.

yeah, while sure portable computers are increasing in usage, we'll never see the back of a proper desktop pc, they'll be around for ever, portability has downsides, many downsides.

When do you really need that power? When you're playing that one video game out of thousands that requires a $2500 computer? Cold hard truth, the older you get the less often you get to dedicate time to games, unless you want to flunk out. In a college setting, I simply didn't find any use in a tower. I used an extremely powerful G5 tower my freshman year and it was a pain in the ass - I couldn't bring it anywhere. Once I got a macbook my life just became easier. Gaming is probably 10% of what I use a computer for, so aside from recently playing the new steam games that came out for mac, I really don't need 16 gigs of ram, top of the line video cards, etc. It's all fluff.
Why I choose mac, I've been using mac my whole life. Had an Apple ][ when I was 3 years old. Comparing all the macs I've had versus the PC's i've built and used, I'm just more comfortable using an OS that doesn't require me to constantly defrag and clean.
The only complaint I do have about processing power comes from one of my jobs. I do need a lot of horsepower when it comes to using PSD files several gigs in size, and rendering complex 3D scenes, but my macbook can handle it all just fine. I'm patient enough to wait a few minutes instead of just 1 minute for a render. If something takes hours to render, it's common to just set up a network of several computers to process the job, and due to my college having nifty computer labs, I'm not at a loss.
At the end of the day, you just need to ask yourself what you're REALLY using the thing for, and then go for the OS that makes you most comfortable using. When it comes to a college setting, I've learned that having a laptop is infinitely more useful than being tethered to my room all the time. It just leads to procrastination, which is deadly.
Mac....maybe an iMac, for its good graphics and things

Probably took what I said too literally. It's not like I meant desktops are fuckin' dying, but rather computers with more mobility will most certainly increase in popularity among consumers, especially so with the introduction of smartphones, netbooks, and tablets. Of course there are businesses relying on the power of desktops, but when someone not in that business is given the option of a cheaper and more mobile computer, they will most likely head in that direction. I point towards the rise of every computer company producing tablets now.

Personally? I'd build a better desktop than I already have. Intel and AMD both have six-core processors.
Six cores. When will I ever need that many cores? Probably not anytime soon. But the size of your dick is directly proportional to the number of cores your processor has.
The HD 5970 is currently the most powerful graphics card on the market, but at $700, it's a bit pricey for minimum wage, so the no cash limit in this scenario is nice. 8GB of Corsair or Crucial DDR3 RAM would last me a while, I'd think. A nice Seasonic or Antec Power supply would be great. Get a 1000W one and I'll never have a power problem. Is 1000W overkill? Most definitely. But I have unlimited money, so why not? My monitor would be an Nice HD one. Why not even spring for using a HDTV for your monitor. There's no limit after all. A 2TB Western Digital HDD sounds nice. SSD's speed is nice, but I'd like a little more space. Plus, a 15,000RPM HDD is fast enough for me. Bluray/DVD/CD burner-reader is a must. That one Thermaltake case with the gas-lifts would be sweet.
The PC would end up at a grand total of $way fucking expensive. But you told me money was no problems. The charge will be on your next credit card statement.

That's a mighty fine point.
I'd buy a really good laptop actually. Probably something from alienware. M11x most likely.
I would just get a good solid desktop PC capable of gaming and 3d animation and a Macbook Pro that can handle all my video and sound needs.
I'm in a bit of a frustrating position where half the software I use is on PC and the other half is on Mac. I'm starting to think that more then half of it is on the Mac now.
I'd just buy the best Mac Pro I could get. Unless there's a more powerful PC I could build that can run Mac OS better.

I would buy a PC because it's all i've known for 20 years :)
Best not to ruin a good thing, eh? I mean windows is buggy as hell and my PC's usually die but I know them and what's familiar to me is comfortable. Creature of habit kinda deal.. Like how I don't really LIKE camel menthols but that's what I buy cuz its what I buy lol
