my walking cycle - help please 2010-05-29 11:32:45 Reply

this is my walking cycle, i will remove the black lines behind him shortly, but im wondering how the body and head should move, whenever i try it just looks like he is shaking.

Do that and your limiting how realistic the walk can be by tweening it. When someone walks their shoulders rotate usually which will be hard to tween. He needs more of a bounce to his walk like demonstrated in the image below.

Try and add a layer above your animation and then place dots on the tip/pivot on the bodyparts, than add a line going through them, this way you can see the arc on your motion! This way you can see if your animation is jagged anywhere, think yuo should try it on the tip of your dagger and youäll be able to make it flow better :)

That's pretty good, the head should be moving with the body more.

i have again added more, with 2 more different people, using your help, i may use these for a game, but im going to need quite a good programmer. If anyone is interested say. but here is the animation now.

ok, if anyone has watched it you will notice the spearmens spear movement is spazzed up, i have now fixed that, but link hasnt changed.

Looking good! The drawings are a little basic, and so is the cycle itself. But it works! Especially if you plan on doing a really large number of these soldiers.

Hmm, he appears to be swinging his legs back and forth rather than taking steps. When you take a step you lift your leg before connecting it with the ground again, maybe take a look at those walk cycles as suggested above and think of how things move in terms of each leg individually, and remember that they're really both doing exactly the same thing, just in alternation.
