lol
well hope you get better soon.
Robo WIP for Robot Day. Went for a steampunk vibe.
Colored version of my yet to be submitted Robot for Robot day. Does it look OK? I know it ain't no winner, you guys are way better, but I at least want it to look good.
I wonder where everyone is? Usually by now someone links a tutorial or something. Lol. Just kidding guys.
keep in mind when working with machined surfaces, they tend to have a smooth surface.
Try to make sure your lines are smooths as possible.
well I'm off to watch a zombie movie :D

Yeah, not to sure what I can do about that now. I did cop out though. I went for the Steampunk hand and hammer made sort of look. I don't think my lines are too horrible. Enjoy the bad zombie movie.

I'm dead serious man! The design is very unique. But the coloring could use some work.

The colours are all just gradients.
I know gradients look metallic and all, but try to refrain from using them.
Next time try hand making a gradient, instead of just using Gimp/Photoshop's gradient tool.
I ran. I ran until my muscles burned, and my veins pumped battery acid. Then I ran some more.
speaking of the metallic looks, LegolaSS did a Zelda pic a while ago, and the paint he did on her tiara was a pretty bad ass metallic.
I swear, type 3 letters and I have to delete 4...

Holy crap! That's too awesome! That must be the greatest Zelda pic I've ever seen. :O
I gotta admit, the bewbs did contribute to me liking this pic. :P

Dude I agree with you. But making gradientts by hand is a pain in the ass. But yeah I'll probably go back and do something.
I have no idea what to do with the coloring. None. I think I'm doomed to being a gradient whore. Which I know is bad. I'm just not sure what to change or how. At least when it comes to metallics.
Ok so I kept the gradients, but made the pic Black and White. Then I recolored over the pic, to give it a more subdued look. The Optimus Prime colors were unintentional.
So I started coloring, still long ways to go. Do you see where I'm trying to go with this Kinsei?

you should really start off colouring the background, it helps establish the light source, then move onto the character so you know where shading and highlights go

I suppose your right. I'll work on that. Very valid point. Thank you.

another good point that has been sad thousands of times before, make use if your layers when coloring.

I always do.
Please crit my robot, be mean if you have to, but I want to put my best foot forward for Robot day. The pose is static 'cause he's "powering up" I think the lines coukd use some work. Anything else? I also went for a steampunk look/

first i gotta say are you colouring on the same layer as the lines, dont, colour underneath them, from what i can see it needs a bit of a clean up, much of the colour is spilling out of the lines, also are you using gradients for the shading, also dont, do it by hand, it gives you much more control with shapes and light sources
Hate to say this, but the lineart is pixelated and sporting the look of something that has been scanned half-arsedly. You could multiply the lineart a few times to get rid of the white bits, but another way that works (I prefer to use this method, less layers in use) is to simply make another colouring layer underneath the rest of the colours, select the entire robot, then fillit with black - those white bits should be transparent, so this should cure it.
Otherwise, nice picture you got thar.

Actually Lintre has it more accurate. I did indeed color UNDER the lines, not within. But otherwise your right. Thanks for the advice. Both of you.
