Figured I'd start my own thread. I'm going to post my older works to newer works. With execption of the starter pic. Alot is MSPaint but not all. I like the challenge of paint. Not that I'm adverse to other programs. The first pic is one of my more recent MSPaints.

Aww Bob, you should know better.
You should post the most recent work and best work first. if you have anything that you have done previously that is on par with your newest and best then that is ok to post. But for the most part, threat this like a new beginning.

Similar to "This is where I am now, I can only get better from here." Not "This s where I started and this is my progression to here."
Don't look to fill your thread with old dull works but new and exciting ones.

Fair enough. However some of my old works that I'm proud of I will post. I will post Newer stuff, as you make a good point. Though as I said Nostalgia may take over once in a while.

A newer piece I did for the "design your own Tankman" thread. I tried a simple action approach, but The shading is off in my opinion. Lighting and shading is what i'm working on now.

This one I am proud of. Done in MSPaint. This is a self portrait of sorts. It is of my L.A.R.P. (Live Action Role Play) character Rock. Yes, I do wear a mask like that as that Character. Or at least I did. As Rock, well he died lol. The background does suck. I spend so much time on the figures That I usually half ass the background as I paint myself into a corner so to speak, I never did like backgrounds.

Wip. Drawn in Paint. but will be completed in GIMP. GIMP has a disturbing lack of line tools, and I'm a lazy tard and have yet to figure out the path tool, so I draw inpaint with the line and shape tools then usually finish it in GIMP.

oh god oh god oh god.

I advise you to practice drawing individual parts of things, because your things are put together alright, but the individual parts are just bad.

Explain. Do you mean the anatomy? Or how stiff the poses can be? Not to sound stupid, but I'm not quite sure what you mean.

the line quality isn't bad but not too good.
----for the final (non sketch) try to create each curve with one smooth line.
also in regards to the crotch area.
---When lines are moving in towards the body they get thinner. THis can be easy enough just by flicking your wrist with the pen in hand.

Just thought I'd try to contribute. It's just some advice, though, so feel free to take what is of value, and ignore what isn't.

I think what Big Johnny said makes sense. The body is a wee bit too short, but another thing to note is that the hip segment seems to missing or distorted, which might explain why the person looks a little squashed.

As for the legs, generally the thighs taper down until just below the knee. Currently the thinnest point of the thigh is above the knee, which would make the thigh look short. The missing hip segment also caused the legs to seem a bit too far apart.

All in all, not a bad effort, really. Maybe some study into bone structure or anatomy would help?

Sorry for the messy illustration, but it might help make sense of what I've written down. Cheers, and all the best!

Thanks for the advice Ashman. I actually have a number of books to reference, but the added info helps. Course reading and practice are two different animals. Lol. I'll keep on trucking.

Ok I've taken all advice so far, like extending the knee so the arm does not reach it. And this is what I got so far. Also I fixed the gun position. It was bothering me.

Y'know your absolutely right. But for some reason I like how it came out. In future pics I'll push the shading more. No doubt it lacks there. I know this pic could use improvement, But Like I said I'm happy with it. Reminds me of the drawings on the back of 'Hop Along Cassidy's Cereal" Don't know why, but it just feels right. Maybe I'm just weird. 'Cause it could use some shading. I dunno. I like it.

thats not the sketch, thats starting from the finished lineart, you need to plan your drawings out beforehand, with rough sketches, it doesnt take very long and will improve your work greatly, youll make less mistakes since you can changer the sketch quickly then when your happy go over it to make the final lines

Yeah Ash is right. The under sketch is a lot like underwear only a lot more stick figure and a lot less personal.
By using under sketching and frames you can solve a ton of proportioning issues that a lot of people face.
As you progress in skill the less extensive the sketching will need to be since you will gain a sense of how things go together.
