Use the damn general forum, this forum is for discussing goverment crap and all that. BUT i guess more people on the politics forum would have a bit more knowledge whats going on than general forum people.
Death cures a fool
but philosophy is actually interesting, unlike politics
I made a topic about this and it was explained that "politics" is actually a pretty all compassing term, referring not just to the regular politics we talk about in our everyday life.
So, you lose.

You lose for what Drakim said and because if you go back and look at the history of the board it's "grandfathered" in that the topics you don't like are under discussion here as this has always been kind of the "intellectuals" section of NG.
If you don't like a thread then don't read it.
There's not a lot of continental philosophy on this forum, most of the philosophy here is political philosophy. I guess I don't mind the occasional metaphysics.

To add on further to this and to the OP, a "philosophy" forum probably wouldn't survive on its own. Not many people would fill up that forum with topics, and so the Politics forum becomes the place that takes in all of the philosophical questions and arguments we may have.

Personally, I wouldn't mind subforums in the Politics section for Science and Religious Debate. It wouldn't be much more trouble than what we've already got to maintain, as far as stress on the mods go. It'd just be more organized.
(As far as mod duties go, I mod other forums and see no difference when the number of topics is the same)

If you want to get a real discussion started, that sounds marginally intellectual, you don't put it on general forums. That's the dirthole of the NG forums.

Religion is not the same as philosophy, although you could argue that the two are similar. Religious dogma is about what happens after you die and what happened historically to support your claims, which are basically political ideals. Philosophy does not rely on dogma (in that people have to believe something).

Serious philosophical discussion topic in General that'll be a disaster : This is newground politics we're discussing btw
It's a way for the typically atheist group on these boards to be the "intellectual minority" they think they are.
Like they're any different.

What do you want to bet there're all to busy getting abortions and not praying to respond?
To the OP-I think this board is covering the range of topics it was meant to cover.

I think porn is interesting--I'm sure plenty of people do--but you don't see us spewing porn topics in here. Besides which, there's a philosophy crew in place for the discussion of that stuff.

Of course things like trolling are universal to all forums....
Philosophy and politics are necessarily intertwined. How does one justify a political course of action, what arguments are used? And what basis is there to say that that justification is valid? That requires a philosophy of some sort.
Political ideologies are likewise motivated by philosophies, whether they realize it or not, and it is particularly useful when people who are advocating a particular political PHILOSOPHY, know exactly what that philosophy is and where it comes from.
On a moving train there are no centrists, only radicals and reactionaries.
I swear to god we answer this thread at least once a year... and every time someone is forced to define politics as "the philosophy of governance" and all is right in the world till the next newb. Post it in General? Make sure to wrap it in a condom first...
