You can get the viewer for free from the Microsoft site, or you can use OpenOffice instead.

Well, you can always use Notepad. It's easy and free to use! The simple interface specifically made for n00bs like you and me is the best thing YOU can afford!

Word Pad gives you some basic formatting and is also included in Windows, but I stand by OpenOffice for more professional work. It's a full featured suite comparable to pre-ribbon Microsoft Office and is better for print applications which is what the OP needs.

It costs £100 last time I heard to get the microsoft set. Get open office instead the same but free and better.

You could always make a google account if you don't already have one and use google docs. It's pretty neat and you don't need to download/install anything.
