What if someone on their high school graduation date (2 hours before the piece of paper is actually handed to them) they came into the school office and signed a drop out form
what would happen?
would they officially be a drop out and not get the diploma?

Don't do it man! Think about your future!
They never graduated, so yes, they'd be a high school dropout. They'd also be the stupidest dropout alive, stupider than the ones who dropout on their sixteenth birthday.

So what you are saying is that you are to lazy so you want to give up on school?! If I can put up with school then you should.
It is an official document, therefore you would be dropped out of school.
My opinions are so useless, I don't even listen to them.
They already earned it, I would think it'd be too late for it to matter. They took the classes, got the credits/grades/whatever. The ceremony isn't that important and you still graduate if you don't go to it.
The sig that I'm wearin? Awesomely made by Skaren!
Also, I like annoying Americans by calling English football "real football" and American football "rugby".-Lost-Chances

Well, if you've officially dropped out before you get your diploma, then you'll never get the diploma. You can say you passed all your classes, but you won't have a diploma.
I'm pretty sure they would have graduated already by completeing all of their necessary classes. They just wouldn't have a meaningless piece of paper.
Technically speaking you've already graduated before graduation, as odd as that may sound it's true once the information is in their system, presumptively days before the graduation, your considered a graduate regardless of the shit paper, however, just for a fun mind fuck i say it would be a good prank, most schools hold graduations and senior proms off premises and well, that means the stupid fuck who would hand over the diploma wouldn't even know you dropped out, the worst case scenario i can think of is if they try to enter your drop out information and they get some wacko errors, possibly deleting your transcripts etc...Wouldn't THAT be fun? Another 4 years of high school...
once you get the credits required to graduate you can't drop out

That cant be right, i know people who have more than enough credits to pass that have failed for things such as bombing state tests or not handing in / handing in senior projects late...

You need the necessary number of credits plus your required classes. The credits alone don't guarante you graduate. That is the difference between what you two are saying.
I think this counts as one of the ideas that could possibly exist, but is definitely not worth thinking about.
I should have done that. I graduated from high school even though I only got most of my credits through technicalities. I never passed a single high school math class.
To this day I have felt that my diploma is meaningless because some people pulled some strings or some shit. I don't even understand what I did that got me that piece of paper. It was undeserved. I would have felt better if I was aloud to get a GED or something to prove that I earned the diploma. But I can't do that because technically I am a high school graduate.
On my last year of high school I serious did consider dropping out. I never did and ironically it's the biggest regret I've ever had.
I got all of my credits and came out with high 80s average. Never bothered to do my service hours so I'm technically a dropout. Word.
Yes, I believe they would not get the diploma. Although the school would explain to the student that they are in fact going to be graduated in two hours. They'd probably be like wtf too.
But if he seriously wanted to do it, they'd have to let him.
Yeah, whatever.

if you tried that... well your fucked for one because they will just laugh at you and tell to to go away... plus you need parental signatures .. to get those papers to go through.. its a 18 day return time if not more... and it would be easier to simple not take the final tests in highschool and get a bellow 50 adverage. thus failing highschool..
but in all seriousness i have a friend that droped out in grade 9.. he just stoped and never went to high school.. hez a awsom guy, not to friendly to newcomers, but he has been hard pressed to find a job to the point that he had to take a job working as a cutter as his fathers workshop..
FYI for all of you.. you dont get highschool.. McDonalds, or around 15.55 a hour is the top wage you will be able to make in your life. ALL YOUR LIFE

I don't know exactly what you said but 15.55 an hour would be a 100% pay increase for me. Why would I NOT want that?

such things would depend on state/school district, they aren't universal
i mostly just meant if you have good grades and are in good standing for the most part they won't let you drop if you have the required credits
Lets continue this discussion as the year is coming to an end as far as school goes for some people. Im sure this is a thinker which is why I like this thread so much. So good luck and keep posting your wonderful ideas.
Are credits erased after dropping out of high school or something? Someone once mentioned this but idk if its true or not did anyone ever attempt this? Its perfect if your a 4th year freshman

Technically, you're a dropout. TECHNICALLY.
That kind of happened to a friend of mine 12 hours before our graduation, except he was kicked out. 4 years of high school, missed diploma by half a day :(
Well, where I used to go to, drop out forms go into a sort of "queue". Takes like 1 or 2 days before they actually do anything about it.

God damn... That's brutal. What did he do to receive so harsh a punishment?
