Going back characters on a iPod?

Right now i'm using my aunts iPod touch and Im getting really frustrated with having to delete the whole word instead of just going back a character or two. Is there a way to do this?

Got a few more questions. Is there anything else about this thing that would be cool to know about? As you know this one is my aunts but if there something that would stand out with this thing then I might just buy one myself. I already know that one of the downfalls is this things crappy battery. Idk if it's just this one or every one but this one only last about 3 hours or so. Is that normal? What about posting pictures? Is there apps for doing that? Because not being able to post pics kinda sucks.
