i just downloaded Firefox and i like it a lot for browsing the web. But here on NG, when i load a submission, it's cutting off the bottom of the flash window. Any of you Firefox users know why?

http://www.safer-networking.org

Download Spybot from one of the mirrors.

After installing and running, click the Immunize button in the left hand column.

Scroll down you should see 3 check boxes, It is recommended to check all three for full protection.

BTW- Spybot was the highest rated anti-spyware program at PC Magazine. Consider donating to the creator if you use the program as much as I do.

I wouldn't knock FireFox too badly because: A) it is still in a technology preview phase (version 0.8) and already more stable than anything I have ever used. B) When was the last time you saw an update for IE (other than some patch for another security hole?

The first thing I did after running FireFox was to delete Mozilla and Opera as my alternatives. I paid for Opera once and they wanted me to pay again for an upgrade. FireFox is free.

I have never seen a single crash with FireFox and I still use IE to open some sites with but overall I have a much better (and stress free) browsing experience with FireFox.

I am even using Thunderbird for mail (available from Mozilla), the day I stopped using Outlook I saw my spam level drop at least 80%. I'm sold!

I have Ad-Aware and Spybot Search and Destroy, but everything they kill keeps coming back! My homepage is always being changed, and it used to be NG, BTW!

I am getting quite annoyed. It feels like my computer and I are getting violated up the ass. I've never felt this helpless, and I don't like it.

For those that are stuck to IE you can use MyIE2. The program comes with a built in popup blocker that has blocked 100% ads for me so far that I have tried it. For the times you want the popup it shows a list of what it blocked and you can open them.

I've noticed that the spyware crap got a hold of my comp a couple of weeks ago, and it totally disrupted my settings freezing my computer to a complete friggin' ice sickle. I went a week and a half with this annoyance. I don't know if this has happened to anyone, but I found a spysweeping software that fixed the damn problem. NO LIE!!! This isn't like that spyware crap that states that it gets rid of spyware stuff when in reality; it adds the crap to your computer. This program actually worked for me. It's totally free of charge, and it works better than any other spy erasing programs I've used.

Check it out and see if it works for anyone that might be experiencing problems like I was.

I hope some one catches them soon before shit really hits the roof. I am sure people are getting tired of changing their home page,I know I am. THIS IS BULLSHIT.

In case you read this, it's an occasional fault. Try looking through this topic, I've had that happen to me a couple of times. Sounds like the same problem.

I'm sure nobody on NG wants my life story but I used to be a hardcore Mac user up until last summer. Nobody could ever picture me using a PC. I was used to both platforms but my expertise leaned toward the Apple side. I used a PC laptop all summer and bought my first PC this past October. Between both computers I have had zero problems with virii, spyware, etc.

I got in the habit while using my Mac of keeping track of what belonged in the system folder, if something were placed there by a new program, I would get rid of it upon uninstallation of the program.

It probably comes down to me being obsessive but I check Windows Update, LiveUpdate, SpyBot, SpywareBlaster, and others on a daily basis.

I know what should or should not be in my programs list. If I uninstall a program, I run TweakXP to clean the registry and remove ALL traces of the program. Temp folder is cleaned twice a week, Cache is cleaned daily. Virus scans 3 times a week.

Call me meticulous or whatever you want, I spent quite a bit of money on this 17" laptop and it will continue to look new and run like new for as long as I own it.

My only recommendation is to go through your computer and take a look at everything in your Program Files folder, maybe find a registry cleaner, and use whatever tools necessary to take back your computer. I personally can't really help unless the computer is in front of me.

Well, there are a lot of good software out there that can really help this ad cause. What you could do is load up good adware and spyware removal prog. such as Ad-Aware or Spybot Search&Destroy to eliminate them.(Once I browsed Newgrounds and found 10 spy progs on my comp. afterwards!) An easy way to do this is to go to www.downloads.com
and search for them. YES, it is very annoying to see that I get LOTS of ads on newgrounds even with my protection on. I have found the progs very effective. I hope this information has helped.

Yes, these BS ads are getting to be a bit much. I understand these pests, malware, spyware, whatever have increased 100 percent in the last two years. Really makes me want to punch someone in the nose. I can configure my security software (genaric term) to block 99% of these, BUT THEN I CANT ENJOY THE SITES, as alot of benifical scripting and code gets blocked. Recently I have left two of my favorite web games do to this, almost makes me wish for some govt intervention, almost. Seriously though, I understand the need to make a buck, but there are limits people. Generally a nice guy, but I hope anyone affiliated with this type of software drops dead, painfuly so.

Sorry to hear that Tom... but I'm glad it's getting taken care of. I had to DL two anti-spyware programs, Spybot S&D and AdAware, to get rid of the spyware Gator was installing on my system via your popup ads. Even if I clicked "no", Gator would install on my system anyway. For a while it stopped me from coming here (and turned a few of the friends I referred to this site into enemies), but then I started using Mozilla as an internet browser and it keeps all that crap out.

I thought about taking on some banners to defray my site's costs... but seeing what you're dealing with I think I'll just go out of pocket. Damn.
