Man they are really stupid who's going to buy their product if their ads screw up your computer. They're just lucky anti-spyware software is free or they'd have to pay millions to get it off everyone's system. You should make a list and bring it to every advertiser saying "these sites cannot be advertised on this site. If you advertise these with your third party site you're ad will also be banned."

Mozilla, ad-aware, firebird, firefox, Norton. For pete's sake how many anti-popup software is there. I know of two more Adzapper (which works really well) and Popswatter.

On the newgrounds we have some very capable people so maybe if you can give us some background info on these advertisers you never know what your loyal fan's can do! If you can bad mouth comcast you can easily dime out a few advertisements.

Spyware isn't illegal, therefor, they wouldn't have to pay any money to get it off of anyones system.

People just find it annoying so they make anti-spyware.

if i could afford it id donate a dollar or two willingly. i only have a few coins (spent it all on a mem card for my mp3 player)
but tom, maybe u should open up some premium accounts that u have to pay for. make premium like 5 dolla a month. if it would keep spyware and stuff off, and get rid of the porn ads and stuff, id gladly pay 5, but i cant afford that.

Ok, i looked over some posts(not all of them since there are so many) and many people seem to think that it IS ok to block ads because their annoying...i supose you're the same people who believe its perfectly fine to go on something like kazaa and download all the popular songs of the moment rather then going and buying the CD yourself.
Newgrounds is free, but that doesn't mean they are here to waste money, if for nothing else the ads are here to keep things up and running, to break evne so to speak. I can't say i know the workings of the newgrounds economy, but they certainly aren't in it for the money. So when YOU don't let thsoe pop ups come up or whatever then you're basicly making it worst forever by making them need to have MORE ads that the more lotal viewers have to deal with ebcause you couldn't handle some ads.

I'd imagine money from the visitors lost due to the reputation that Newgrounds has for having tons of pop-ups (see TheShrike's post on page 2), many of which are malicious (even if they are beyond Tom's control), far outweighs the revenue lost through regular users that use a pop-up blocker. Don't complain about me wanting to protect my computer from spyware, browser hijacking et al, if NG could guarantee there will be no malicious advertisements, I might consider letting pop-ups through. Until then, I'll keep my computer safe.

I just want everyone to know that we don't intentionally run these ads, nor do we profit from them. The way our ads work is this: We run third party ad code so that outside ad companies can sell the space on Newgrounds. If an ad company has the chance to sell 1 million impressions per day, but they can only fill half of that with ads, they will basically "subcontract" the other 500,000 spaces to another third party advertiser who has inventory to fill the space.

What ends up happening is, one of those third party of a third party advertisers decides to slip in some extra "fun" code, and hopes no one will trace it to them. It is hard to catch them, because no legitiment ad company wants to think malicious code is coming from their ad server.

I've grown tired of trying to stay on top of abusers, and it is even harder to manage while I'm out here in San Diego working on Alien Hominid! Keep those fingers crossed...

OK OK, for all you people that might have spyware from newgrounds...... go to http://www.lavasoftusa.com/ , download the free version of Ad-aware. It works like Norton Anti-Virus. Scan your computer with it and it will detect and remove all your spyware. Even if you think you DON'T THINK you have spyware, I highly recommend getting this.

Whats the matter with you people? Donating 1 dollar is a great idea, i mean, thats over 400,000 if everybody donated 1 dollar... i think we should do it to help out Tom and the gang... i mean, come on, he's giving us this great website, the least we can do is help out. Sure, the people overseas might have a lil trouble donating, but we can still make em.. Hell, maybe even donating 2 dollars would be ok

Thanks more making this post, Tom. I've also noticed alot of the pop-ups that have been coming on lately, and how they seem to change periodically. You ought to get this post circulated around. I think the way that these ad agencies do business is low down and also probably not known to the general public. Anyway good luck with Alien Hominid and I can't wait for the new site!

spyware is very annoying, and I do hate ads, and I personally would block them at any and all times. Someone said that you need to have the adverts to pay off the site - I guess it's true, but I would rather not have these kinds of ads allowed on my pc.

And what is all this about donating to NG? It'd never work. Once off some people might pay the $1, but do 400,000 people really check the site all that often that they would pay? I think NG would lose it's appeal if it wasnt free - not that it's not worth paying for, but it would lose something if you had to pay for it.

i believe in english that means to give something to someone willfully. you wouldnt HAVE to donate, but think about it; one measly dollar from even half of ng...thats $200,000 at least! think if everyone donate 2 dollars. thats going to be like $800,000 if everyone does, whch as good as makes the fulps millionaires. they could then get rid of allt eh ads. even half of ng donating 2 dollars would be $400,000 dollars. thats a LOT of money.

Forget Ad-Aware, I'll stick with SpyBot Search and Destroy anyday.

Once downloaded and installed, keep your definitions current, lock IE hosts file, lock the changing of the start page, and install SpywareBlaster from the link within SpyBot S&D. Those two programs work well together.

Norton AntiVirus will do nothing for spyware.

The good rule of thumb is:
If it is a toolbar, it might be spyware, it sure as hell isn't going to do you any good, so just uninstall it.

Firefox leaves something to be desired .... specifically, a mallet. Generally I'm a supporter of open source software, but Firefox has given me so much trouble that I had to scrap it and return to MSIE / Opera. It's sad when IE crashes less than something...

go to www.panicware.com and get the spybot search and destroy and a pop-up blockers. some of them are toolbars, but ive only seen like 1 ad every couple weeks. their stuff is really good.
