You've obviously never had a pet. When my last cat died, the other one sat by the body for two days trying the same thing. She tried poking him, stepping on him, biting him, licking him, pretty much everything she was capable of that would normally get his attention. She wouldn't let us near him. When she finally left, she wouldn't even eat. They would always eat together at their bowls, and she just sat there staring at the spot next to her waiting for him to appear and walk to his spot. If thats not emotion, then I guess I'm incapable of emotion as well.
