3.80 / 5.00 4,200 ViewsIm getting curious on whats it gona look like. I know they have a beta test and I have tested it out and I dont really like it that much. But my friend on the other hand im worried about, he tried steam beta and it fucked up his hole installation. He had alot of hl2 mods and css files for gmod. But he's using win2k (Windows 2000 if you prefer) and has an old athlon cpu.
Im still using XP sp2 and steam will be going out of support for old win2k systems. What are your thoughts on the new steam?

Holy crap, same thing happened to me on all my games D;
Soap on a Rope - Best Idea EVER
holy fuckwits, it did the same to me.
I for one welcome the new steam interface, I welcome it with open arms along with the Mac users that will be joining us.
Why the fuck does he have Windows 2000?
Fuck closed betas, I want my Mac version and I want it nao. :(
With the Beta (or now layout, not too sure) it does take a little bit of time to figure out where everything is, but once you get an idea of where everything is it is a much better system. The little news tabs under game information in the list layout helps to keep you up to date with your game. For example I use it to check for Team Fortress 2 blog updates if I don't catch them on the website. It's a very handy little addition.

Don't we all, my friend. Don't we all. ;(
I actually like the new steam layout more than the old one. Although the old steam was easy enough to navigate, this makes it even easier. I'm not a CSS or TF or GMOD player so idk if it screws that stuff up but so far it is working fine for me.
It's alot less laggy than the beta. The beta lagged to hell on my machine.
For those who want the old steam "Library" list back.
Go onto Library
Next to "View" click "List" (It's the middle one...)
Now, right click on "Games" and select "Icons"
BAM! OLD STEAM IS BACK.
Also, been using new UI since beta went live.
illicit makes a damn good signature.
Oh shi, the new UI is out now. Once portal 2 comes out source games will be mac compatible, steam will say fuck you to old win2k systems (anything under me/2000 I believe) and further beyond. Who knows what they might pull off next.
Don't mind me, I'm just enjoying the old UI.
For Mac users interested in clicking a few buttons in Steam.
Download Mac's Steam application here then on this page click "Play Portal now for free!"
You'll need to have an account, but it won't kick you out if the account isn't linked with the beta.
Can't do anything in Steam other than click a few tabs though--I managed to add a non-Steam game that I already had on my Mac as a shortcut. That's about the most you can do at this point.
Any ideas as to when Steam will release the full version?

The rumor mill claimed it would be mid to late April, but Valve's on record as saying that they plan on rolling out the full version May 5th. :D
In other news, I fucking love you, Chumbawamba.
Behold, my Non Steam game collection!
Minus Diablo 2. For some reason Steam has an issue with Diablo 2, and wont find it in my directory when I try to add a shortcut to it.
And they need to fix those damn buttons, too.

I lied, sorry. It's the 12th, not the fifth.

Rawr, I know I've been the last four posts, but fuck this.
So, the backdoor still works, and I just popped on to see what's up. There was a new update to download, and after installing it, it not only polished the UI and fixed the few remaining bugs (like the window buttons), but it runs much smoother AND I can add all my non-Steam games, where as before, some wouldn't show up (like Diablo 2).
I'm excited. It's good enough to go gold at this point, I don't expect any more delays unless the store itself isn't ready.
