Sarah Palin apparently denounced the separation of church and state in some speech to a bunch of religious women in Kentucky. Here's one thing she said:
"Lest anyone try to convince you that God should be separated from the state, our founding fathers, they were believers," said Palin. "And George Washington, he saw faith in God as basic to life."
What the fuck? The founders just...I mean...they didn't want...they...I mean... JESUS FUCKIN' CHRIST! This lady just infuriates me. I just can't compute it. Unbelievable. The founders meant nothing of the sort. Nothing. I just...just... FUCK!
Is anyone else feeling this way? I'm just interested in what you all think about her.

Sarah Palin said something stupid and ignorant and completely in keeping with hardline right wing neo con ideals?

Has nothing to do with neoconservatism.. but yeah she is a nutbag and if all these conspiracies about how the government is so powerful etc. are true then I hope that "they", or the lizard people, or whoever, would never let her become President, wink wink.

Really? So Sarah Palin is the only person who espouses these views and I should magically assume that this is the one where FOX News and all other neocon outlets that have been supporting her and promoting her are suddenly going to turn away and leave her out to dry on this? Yeah...don't think I'll hold my breath on that one.

Supporting the establishment of a theocratic Christian state != neoconservatism. She might be a neocon but what has this got to do with it?

Not that much for my overall point, which was basically that to me (and I think a lot of other people) it's like a non-issue at this point because this is just what Sarah Palin does. It'd be like if everybody continuously got upset every time someone like Rush Limbaugh or Bill Maher says something inflammatory. Most people should know by now what the score is there, and Palin is no exception. You know she's going to say something pandering and ignorant to the more radical right wing elements because they pay attention to her and they help her make her money and will probably fund her attempt (and at this point, even if she doesn't really want it, I think she has to attempt it) to get the Republican nod in 2012.
To me it's a non-issue when she opens her mouth now, and she's just become the public face for an ideology and a group of people that I personally think are hurtful to the country and progress in general. Hence why I try not to pay attention to them unless it looks like they might actually effect something.

See aviewaskewed, I have actually accepted the fact that she's full of crap, to the point that each time she spouts out a new bowl of shit, I take it as pure entertainment. It's just kinda funny. But painful as Hell, too, considering some people gobble up this bologna like a deli sale.
And yet it's hard to ingore, what with the media coverage and all. So I just make fun out of it. Yet I also worry that this excessive media attention only furthers her exposure to ignorant, radical people, thus furthering her cause.
Here's a neat quote on what President Eisenhower said about Senator Joe McCarthy. For those of you who don't know, Joseph McCarthy was a crazy senator in the '50s who used totally false claims and nasty tricks to accuse innocent people in government of being communists. But here's what Eisenhower said about him:
"Nothing would probably please him more than to get the publicity that would be generated by a public repudiation by the President."
I think it would make sense to say Palin FEEDS of of all this media attention.
The funny thing about McCarthy, though: after a couple years, his massive public support waned as people realized what a total asshole he was. He eventually fell into the depths of obscurity, and no one paid any attention to him, even when he died a couple years later
I know these are different circumstances, but could Palin's following just plummet like Joe McCarthy's did?

She's bought and bought again. She's made millions since stepping down as governor through books, tv, radio and giving speeches. That's why she stepped down: to make money. The deals were only good when her mandate would be up, so she fucking quit for the cash.
She's a party clown. Give her 75k and she'll show up at your dumbass redneck bowling association and say whatever you want.

But to be honest, that's a pretty sweet gig, and if true I can't blame her for doing that. If you had the opportunity to legally make a ton of money fairly quickly, then slowly fade from public scrutiny and never have to work again, would you take it? I probably would.

Obviously, especially if I was a dumb redneck's who's dreams all included expensive recreational vehicles and trips abroad to snipe unsuspecting wildlife.
Anyway let's all just hope she pulls a Mike Tyson and blows all her money on sniper scopes and fur coats so she's bankrupt by the time she's 50 and has to rely on the evil socialized public health care to get treated.

As is you're right as an American. Personally I tend to take the "if I don't give it attention...it'll probably go away". Because let's face it, she opens her mouth knowing she'll get paid. Even if she's only opening her mouth on facebook, she still has so many outlets that will pay her to open her mouth again and expand on whatever she said on facebook for nothing.
And yet it's hard to ingore, what with the media coverage and all. So I just make fun out of it. Yet I also worry that this excessive media attention only furthers her exposure to ignorant, radical people, thus furthering her cause.
It does, but if it's not her, it's going to be somebody else. But honestly I wonder how much of a "cause" she really has. I mean, it's not like there isn't a long precedent of people embellishing or even espousing the complete opposite of what they really believe for the monetary and celebrity benefit.
"Nothing would probably please him more than to get the publicity that would be generated by a public repudiation by the President."
Nothing sells like negativity, and yeah, in her case, she'd LOVE Barrack Obama to take a shot at her. It would make her even bigger with the group of people she's trying to endear herself too.
I think it would make sense to say Palin FEEDS of of all this media attention.
Sure, and she feeds herself and her family with it as well, that's why I get pissed off when she tries to play the victim card when some of that media attention isn't fawning unending praise. We can argue all day how far is too far, but there are other celebrities getting just as scrutinized over their personal lives if not more so, and they don't come out railing against it nearly as loudly or as publicly as Palin does.
I know these are different circumstances, but could Palin's following just plummet like Joe McCarthy's did?
I think if her fans can find somebody that represents them better, or she has some sort of scandal that would just completely ruin her image to them, yeah she'd be gone. I'm hoping an unsuccessful bid in the next election, or deciding she doesn't want to run could do it also.

Show us that interview
Misrepresenting(okay lying) about what our founding fathers believed in in order to contradict one of the most important freedoms ingrained into this country is bad. As an Ameircan she's entitled to her own beliefs not her own facts.

Yes, I've seen that interview. It was one with Katie Couric. She DOES agree with evolution.
But the issue here isn't evolution, or left vs. right, or who scowls at who. The issue is Sarah Palin denouncing a fundamental piece of our constitution. She said that religion should not be separate from the state. There is NO state sponsored religion, and it what intended that way, and it should ALWAYS be that way. I'm sure many Republicans are shaking their heads at this as well. Or at least I hope so.

But the Bible really has nothing to do with Congress...other then the insidious way it's been slipped into politics and courts as a way of certifying someone will "tell the truth".
NO! it just means she has her own fucking beliefs. You leftists talk about how the right bashes obama for no reason, and yet you are guilty of the SAME FUCKING CRIME!
I bash Sarah Palin for the very valid reasons that I think she's a media seeking whore person (similar to celebrities like Kate Gosselin) and for that I loath her as I loathe all others of that stripe. The fact that people want to act like I should somehow take her politics seriously and that's somehow "news" is sickeningly retarded to me. Not to mention if she's against a seperation of church and state, I have an issue with that since I'm very for it. I also don't like her blatantly lying about the beliefs of others (in this case The Founding Fathers). The truth is important.
Y'no, I seem to remember seeing an interview where she said that evolution should be taught in school as absolute scientific fact, just to give you an idea about who she really is.
So to me, that goes back to what I charge her with initially: Sarah Palin will do or say anything to service her image or bank account which leaves me with the question: Who's the real Sarah Palin? Have I met her? Have I heard her speak? Because the Sarah Palin I've seen so far is someone I just wish would go away.

Ytaker, I understand your point, but the issue isn't whether Washington was a believer. Yes, he WAS a believer. But she was essentially saying that Christianity was meant to be the official religion. NO!
And as far as saying they were deists, most deists do believe in a supreme being, but they believe that he no longer intervenes in human affairs.
Here's another Washington quote, in response to some clergymen who wanted a mention of Jesus Christ in the Constitution:
"...the path of true piety is so plain as to require but little political direction."
Washington recognized that the establishment of an official religion would hurt the Union. Palin is right in saying that we are historically predominantly Christian. But in an age where social tolerance is crucial to the betterment of our country, Palin needs to realize that everyone doesn't practice her beliefs.

Bringing a bible to Congress would not violate separation of church and state. Although she's not a member of Congress so I don't know what she'd be doing there anyway.
NO! it just means she has her own fucking beliefs.

Well, guys, she kinda does have a point. While the founding fathers wanted a separation between the church and state, they did advocate the use of religion as a set of moral guidelines when dealing with politics. That's the reason that the Supreme Court opens up with a prayer.
