Don't be ignorant. Come on! I mean, it's not that big of a deal to learn a new language. I'd love to learn Spanish, not only to speak with immigrants from Mexico, but also because it opens up loads of possibilities. I mean, think about it. You know how many Spanish speaking countries there are? Lots.

And besides, you don't see Europeans complain about this kinda shit. They have many neighboring countries with many different languages, and most of them learn various languages.

I think people like you are just lazy, and want to make excuses. :P

I think you guys are making too big of a deal out of it. I live in Texas, and here, there are a LOT of people who speak solely Spanish.

It never bothers me. I never need to interact with them. It's not like I avoid them because I think I'm better, but if they ask me a question in Spanish, I say sorry I speak English, wait three seconds to see if they know English, and if they don't, I move on. It's not like I want to force them to learn a whole new language. Spanish America is almost a complete society that runs next to White America. I don't think that one should be forced to serve the others wishes.

But by that point, I reserve the right to not learn a fucking new language. I don't need to do so to thrive in my surroundings. I can get by totally fine with English. It's not that I'm too lazy, I just have more important shit to worry about than to learn a language that would almost never be used.

Also, English may be a combination of many other languages, but that doesn't make it any less

of one. It's considered a very hard language to learn and I personally love it.

I agree with you, and furthermore I want to add that a lot of this crap comes from the parents. This kid doesn't know what he's talking about, that much is obvious. So therefore, it must not be his own original thought. So... how could someone come to say something they didn't originally think of? They heard dad say "fuckin' spic" one to many times or mom complaining about the "fat spic bitch" in the grocery store who can't process the transaction.

Well that is one ignorant statement. America consists of many people with many different languages. Sure, English is wide-spread, but we have Spanish, as you damn well know, and French, and Italian, and even Romanian. So get used to it.

Then what are you going to do when the Spanish speakers become the majority, and thus, the most spoken language winds up being Spanish? Will you still be so hesitant to learn a new language? Before you answer, think about it. Companies will start wanting people who can speak both English and Spanish, lots of them already do. Lots of kids still in school would be speaking Spanish, and you'd probably then be required to take it, as they would be required to take English. The scenarios can go on and on. The point being there CAN be more than one national language.

I'm thinking about getting that Rosetta Stone software someday when I can afford it. I got a lot of languages I'd like to learn. Maybe even Hebrew, so I can understand the Bible closest to it's original translation.

How far does it go though? The Pledge of Allegiance? Everybody talks about "catering" to people who only speak Spanish. Why don't we just do the Star-Spangled Banner in Spanish? That already went over real well.

Listen pal, just do your little territorial pissing on your own property and speak English all you want. In the real world, people speak different languages that your school was not fianced to prepare you for. What are you going to be, one of those grumpy old men spouting the "back in my day" routine, while all the kids at the table secretly think you are a grouch and don't want to fucking hear it?

Not at all. I have taken 3 years of Spanish to get into a good school. I am not lazy as you think, but still America should have 1 dominant language. You should not have to be forced to learn other people's language just to live in America.

I'm learning spanish in school, I'm trying to become fluent so that I may better function in a society that may one day become primarily spanish speaking. Although in the privacy of my own home and in private conversations, I will continue to speak english.

So what? Learning English in Mexico is almost a must, and we don't complain. There's nothing wrong with learning a second language.

Nobody's forcing you to learn it, anyways.

I think that has fairly answered the question right from the start, I know that in wales they have welsh and english in road signs, textbooks etc even though literally nobody in wales speaks welsh.

Probably because the minorities are fastly becoming the majority. America will soon become North Mexico. That will be our doomsday.

Big companies are smart by seeking Spanish speaking clients and English speaking clients. These companies are not racist like you. They will get any client.

You're the idiot because you only know 1 language. It's common knowledge that a person who knows more languages will get a job over a person who only knows 1 language.

It's the same thing with work experience, a company will always hire the person with the most experience. This is the same way they will hire a person who speaks the most languages.

You're in the same position as an immigrant, you both can't communicate with each other and you both don't want to learn each other's language. This is because in the U.S. English is not the official language, it's only the most popular.

Bit racist. Maybe they are trying to learn English in order to fit in better and make it easier to understand and to be understood. But they have dificulty because English actually is a difficult language to learn. Congugate the verb 'to be'. I am, He/She is, They/We are. Past: I was, He/she was, they/we were. Doesn't make a lot of sense. It's because English is a mish-mash of many languages. It's Germanic, Latin, French and loads other languages all mashed up together.

These guys hurt our economy by getting cheap jobs here and send the money back to their country. This might be nice for them, but this takes away jobs from Americans and money from here. It hurts us. Whoever calls us bigots are ignorant and ought to try seeing from an Arizonan or American viewpoint.

They take the jobs which many Americans do not want to do. It is what happens. Actually it helps your economy because there is a big ol' cheap labour force who will work some crappy job for a ridiculously small amount of money, less than an American would work for because of the legal minimum wage. This stings unskilled American worked but enables businesses to make larger profits by saving on labour costs and enables rich people to have a cheap easy way to have their lawns mowed and their kitchens cleaned.

Not saying it's right to demean a group of people by paying them less for working some crumby job. Purely economic reasoning makes dicks out of us all, there are ethical concerns to take into account too. But purely on an economic basis, it kinda makes sense.

Hey asshole you don't know how if it fucking feels.

Back in the 19th century our language was prohibited by Tsar Russia.

Not to mention the soviet union, when EVERYTHING, was in russian. At least you can actually keep your language, cause we didn't have a choice.

Canada's both English and French, so you can choose either language or both.

I speak English, and when it comes to French, je ne ses pas.
