I'm losing faith in my band. 2010-04-10 00:03:20 Reply

Okay guys, open your ears, I'm going to need your help.

So I play in a band. And well, when we got the full lineup, I felt we'd be pretty good. Then came first practice, and I thought it was alright. The bassline for our first song sucked though:

1|---333344446666-|
2|---------------------O|
3|---------------------O|
4|-----------------------|

Then came second practice, I'm not going to bore you with the tab, but It was as insulting as the last one. And this is all Metalcore bullshit.

Now, we're planning on moving the drums to my house, and this causes problems.
1) They don't want to help clean up.
2) They want me to transport it.
3) They can't decide when to do it.

And now I just discovered that we have another practice tomorrow, and I cannot be there.

With all this, I'm on the last string, and it's starting to tear.
The problem is, should I really give up and leave?

discuss

What a shame, Mister Jensen.
I never asked for this, Mister Denton.

How about instead of drum sticks, you could use petrified dicks?

How is that even related to my lingering decision to quit?
And I don't do drums, I'm the bassist.

I'm going to lay this gently, how the fuck are we to know what you and your friends should do?

I don't know you, but I can tell you that every single band member has to want it to work or it never will. If they're this goddamn lazy about moving their fucking equipment, they obviously haven't the passion necessary to make good music.

I may be wrong, but as a person from the internet, with no knowledge beyond the words you describe, this will be the best advice you will find.

Because I'm not the only musician on Newgrounds.

Your question wasn't relating to tabs or the production of music, but whether you should continue your endeavors with your "friends".

Instead of dreaming about how your small garage band is going to make it big, why don't you focus on studying in school and ensuring that you won't become a failure?

Oh, and do you think that the Musicians of Newgrounds are all solo artists?

Was this not the question? Am I not discussing what you said to discuss?

I don't understand.

Basically, I am asking musicians that have been in this spot (Disorganization/Bad Music/No creative input) if it's smart to cut my losses and try something else.

Well there's your answer. What kind of drummer doesn't take care of his own shit? I think it's time you join/form a new group if you're driven to succeed.

It sounds like your group's a collection of really wack ass fucks that just don't have their hearts in the music.

Just cut your losses and piss off somewhere else.

I could play with FUNK, but I'm not driving across the state to practice, and he's too good for me.

I know a duo of Deadheads, maybe I can form up with them and make a Jam Band.

Stick with the band man, might as well see where you guys can get with it. It's easy to quit, anything good you have to earn.

sounds like you need a new band. if you're the only one with any ambition, it's not going to work. i'm no musician, but i have leadership skills so i know how a team works. whatever you do, don't let them stop you from making music.

Atleast you've got a band up and running, we can't even find a decent bass player.

Ugh. The first problem in all kids and their goddamn "Bands". You don't join a band just because. Bands aren't about gathering you, a friend, 2 random people, and some dude from Craigslist and expecting to be good. It's about getting some friends who have the same music tastes and the same aim and working together to write songs. A lot of popular bands now-a-days (Avenged Sevenfold, Blink-182, Green Day) have one thing in common. They all were high-school friends first.

Start writing your own stuff, show it to them. If they don't like it, tell them to fuck themselves and leave. Look for another band to join perhaps.

They don't respect you.

get rid of them, you'll always be able to find new band members, it's not worth clinging to your current ones.

You're not giving us enough information to go on, we don't know if you're as shitty as you let on to be, so we can't help you. Musician or not, we can't help you because all you did was post a generic tab and "ohhh wahhh my band's not working outttttttt". You didn't even tell us what kind of band you're in, but if it's a metalcore/whatever band, fucking quit.

If you stick with the band it might be more time wasted than used. You get to practise songs within a group but will there be an outcome at the end? Would you be able to form another band if/when you leave? etc... etc...
