Last week, he went on a little Twitter rant about how critics unfairly bashed his film Cop Out and that he wants them to pay to watch his films, even though he looks optimistically at piracy. Toronto's critic Peter Howell argued against him by saying "your idea sounds like being asked to pay to perform jury duty" and "there is no such thing as a "free" movie for a critic". After reading the whole article, I think Smith just got served. There's no excuse for bad filmmaking. Also, even though critics get paid, they're not paid even close to the same level as Hollywood filmmakers. In fact, according to Christopher Null, his site Filmcritic.com is an exception to not getting payed.

Kevin smith is not a sore loser. I heard him over the Opie and Anthony show and the only reason critics are bashing cop out is because kevin smith is always bashing critics. It's his fault any ways but fuck them your gonna take the side of a up tight snotty mother fucker who can't even make a movie of thier own? Or your gonna take the side of a good director?
He didn't even write the movie so It's not all of his work not like Clerks 1 and 2, Mall rats, dogma, jay and silent bob.
Sure kevin smith is all about the dick jokes and star wars references but I still like him.

I just read what Peter Howell wrote and you talk about kevin smith being a sore loser? Peter Howell is being butt hurt faggot. Calling cop out one of the worst movies of 2010. Dude I seen shitty comedy movies and cop out is no tropic thunder or other recent gold comedy movies, but going all out saying it's the worst movie of 2010 is wrong I thought the movie was funny and threw stuff at me I wasn't expecting and made me laugh out loud and most comedy movies don't do that for me.

How is he always bashing critics? They helped with launching his career and when Roger Ebert left his film reviewing TV show in 2006, Smith appeared three times as a guest host. Also, "they haven't made a movie themselves" is such a straw man argument. That's like saying you can't criticize anything unless you make it. What about other people who just watch movies for entertainment? They're not allowed to have an opinion unless it's favourable?

True, but being a director is still a huge responsibility because it means you oversee everything that goes into a film. James Cameron said on The Hour just be sick for one day and you'll see people really look up to you.

Well, good for you that you liked it. The critics obviously didn't and even audiences weren't that crazy about it. You also failed to address Howell's other points on Smith's rant. Movies are subjective, but calling a critic a "butt hurt faggot" because you liked Cop Out and he didn't is like doing the same for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.
