i have always been too shy for my own good. and it sucks ass. i wish wasn't so quiet but i can never think of anything to say...

I've gone to drinking beer before a class, to get me out of my shell. It works, but I'm only 19 so alcohol is hard to come by.

I've made a few good friends in the past year. I honestly can't see myself hanging out with most of the people in my school, since I have nothing in common with them. I'm not athletic, I like computers and video games. Also, half my school is made up of Mexicans, and Mexicans only hang out with other Mexicans.

I'm completely fine with only having like 10 friends at school.

Well drugs are a bad idea, but removing your inhibitions through other means is a good start. Find a few close friends and practice being spontaneous with them. If social skills don't come naturally, then it means you need to practice. Think of someone you'd like to be like, for me it's Mr. T and Joel Dawson, and during real life situations, ask yourself "What would Mr. T/Joel Dawson do?" If you're not good at doing this on the spot, think of some common situations and plan out what you would say or how you would act ahead of time.

I have the same problem in a way but one major advantage that I have is that I ask people questions. If you can ask a lot of questions to someone about something you like you can just get them to talk and talk and talk. the great thing about this is taht as you talk to them you retain that information for future conversations. Eventually you can talk to almost anyone about anything, or at least popular things that matter. Establish some common ground. Jokes are always good ice breakers.
