dear god.. how long has it been since the last MAC?

about a year http://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/search/top ic/mac9

also does the rule still stand that judges can't actually submit pieces?

nah, i think it's fine if judges wish to contribute with material. they WILL however have a harder time, since they won't be allowed to vote on their own material.

also what constitutes a ringtone nowadays since any SONG can be put as a ringtone?

what do YOU think?
personally im thinking short, catchy loops... but it could be humorous or whatever, really...

Holy shit a new MAC?

Dude I haven't seen this in such a long time!

Definitely going to enter. :)

Umm, shouldn't there be a time limit for the song. No limit was specified, and I don't wanna make a whole song or anything. Also, you should try to include the frequency range of a cell phone speaker. They only go so far in range, and especially since they work horrid with bass. I think they are around squawker ranges.

Strychnine and cyanide. A healthy part of this complete breakfast.

I've never entered a Mac before, maybe now is the time ^___^.

If i think of ringtones, i think of midi/chiptune like songs.. Hmm...

All discussion, questions etc. concerning the contest goes in this thread.

Sounds fun, are there any ideal time lengths for the submissions?

there's no set timelimit, but i would expect the contest entries to be mainly short loops...

and DOH of course i should have looked up roughly what frequency-range a small speaker like on a "standard" phone has... a rough quess is that it would roll off around 2-300Hz at the lowend, and perhaps as high as 15kHz at the highend. im not exactly sure how to measure telephone speakers properly, there are numerous different ways to measure sound and soundspitters... gonna have to look into this matter closer at some point though.

one thing is for sure, the human ear is most sensitive at around 3-4kHz, and ringtones are meant to get the attention of humans... :)

Man I'm reading the Rule 10 thread and I'm getting a kick of e-nostalgia... how about bringing back the Rule 10 thread just for today, with the return of the MAC and all? :D

Less than 40sec I think, otherwise I can't have it on my phone ;)

i was actually planning on unlocking that thread once/year, the date it was submitted, but it fell of the radar since i had stepped from modship down during the first "annivercary". it should definitley make a comeback some day though... :3

To make a ringtone sounding song? Should it be in some sort of crazy effect channel that makes it sound like an actual ringtone? :P

nah, just make whatever you want, try to figure out what YOU would like to have as a ringtone... read through the contest-thread for some takes on what the judges will focus at lease a little on.

I might as well try this out i guess, since there's no better way of getting noticed is having your submission get the shit kicked out of it by the veterans of NG =P

And since I just now read my PM box...

Hellz yeah. Looking forward (and yet at the same time not looking forward at all) to bringing back ze ol MAC radio show by DJing this as well.

Obviously not much in the way of mixing will be involved, but I'll make sure it's a great and lulzy time.

AND YES I WILL FINALLY CHANGE MY FUCKING RINGTONE FROM "CASTLES IN THE SKY" AFTER THIS COMPETITION.

Because that's wayyyyyy overdue.

To me, ringtones stimulate my memories of keygen music :)

Does this mean we can use samples from audio portal submissions? Or does the prizes make the submissions considered commercial projects?

I don't think there's any need to make a fuzz about the fact that you can win 50USD, although if you sample heavily, you might wanna share the prize in case you win. So yeah...
You're allowed to sample stuff within the Audio Portal (as always, just give proper credit) - considering that you don't find some Eminem vs Linkin Park mix "remix" submitted by sonicmariodude445221 or similiar ;)

Still, unique audio is prefered, and will stand a better chanse in the contest.

Also, like EchozAurora said, he'll be announcing the winners in a radiogrounds-show sometime during May!!! :)

I'll be testing a few of these out as the contest goes along me thinks.

I found a pretty badass site that allows you to upload files, converts them.. and then gives you a download link for your phone.

Beamitupscotty.com

Check it out!

Noted. I used a few samples from soro and stamper so I'll keep it in mind...

... assuming I place...

Also, why are you people making introductions to a one minute ring tone? Do you guys ever answer your phones?
