Ever since I got flash back in June.

I haven't been able to create!

I'm still oblivious as to how the keyframe stuff REALLY works...

Sure I can operate it and navigate a bit through the interface...But I'm doing so blindly and aimlessly.

I cannot properly animate anything!

Here's a simple scenario. (example! I wouldn't use stick figures)

1.) I open flash, draw a circle, add arms and a body.

2.) I put a keyframe on '30' and while on '30', I position the arms and legs in to a different angle.

3.) I randomly right click on the time-line and insert a tween. (I don't know if it's siginificant as to where you right click and insert the tween)

4.) I press 'play' and I expect to see the arms and legs move into the position I put them in...Instead a blue outline of a square forms around the stick figure and moves the whole drawing to the right...

5.) and sometimes when inserting a tween onto the timeline, it will insert the run-of-the-mill dashed line across it..But leaves the keyframe at the end empty...Thus making me manually insert a tween into that empty frame, to make the dotted line whole...

SUMMARY: I'm having lot's of trouble using basic tweens..

BTW, when would one use 'Frame by frame' instead of Tweening?

And IF I ever do create a simple animation (like an Eye blinking), how would I loop it so It independantly "blinks"...As opposed to copy&pasting the same frames over and over again.

I hope I haven't confused you

:(

You need to put arms, legs, etc into different layers!!!

Sorry to double post, but I think you need to do the right click->motion tween in to the both keyframes...

basic tweening in a nutshell
steps
1. Draw a circle
2. select the entire circle and hit f8(convert to symbol)
3.in the box that pops up choose graphic and give it a name
4. hit ok(or create) This turns the drawing into a "symbol" symbols can be used over and over where needed by dragging them out of your library(f11) Also to note before you tween something always convert it to a symbol first either movie clip or graphic this saves flash some thinking and it saves you from messing up your library.

5.On the stage place your symbol where you want it to begin.
6. right-click on a later frame and choose insert keyframe.
7.Move the symbol where you want it it to end.
8.Right click ANYWHERE in between the 2 keyframes and create motion tween.
9.Test your movie (ctrl+enter/return) you'll see it animate :)
10.If you look under your timeline box on the left side you'll see a little +(plus) sign hit that and it will create a new layer.
11.Draw a new object and repeat steps 1-10.
12.The movies should loop automatically unless you tell flash otherwise.

hope this helped Flash takes some getting used to :)

That helped!^

But why is that the Last keyframe is still not part of the tween.

Is it meant to be that way?

Oh and one more thing.

Say if you were to create a flash with A backround with a flying bird going back and forth, Two different men throwing a ball and sound...

How would that be constructed?

To do blinking, simply make your 4 framed blinking animation (or however short/long you want it) then make a new movie clip and cut and paste the 4 frames into the movie clip. Now if you place the movie clip on the characters face, it will blink every so often (remember to leave time between each blink.)

Argh!

I knew I'd forget some things.

1.) How does one know how much of the drawings will be shownin the filan flash? Because I tried constructing a ground with a rectangle covering the the bottom of the work area and I tested it to see what it would look like, and it looked like a square in a big white area instead of a ground! :(

2.) And if I just add a single framed backround..and there is a layer over it...why is it when I add a keyframe to another frame rather then the Backround...the backround disspears!

I'm sure I'm fogetting some stuff...But I'm sure this topic is benefitting others as well..

thanks everyone

Ok, I don't really understand #2.
But one is fairly simple, in the fla, just draw 4 lines round the stage outline that is already displayed (but wont show in the .swf.) I understand what you mean I think.

Trying to understand #1 I think you aren't putting a frame in each layer...or something? Are you drawing the background colour in one frame, and then the background scenery in another frame?

Again, hope I helped

You certainly did!

What I meant was

If I create a layer called "Backround" and another layer called "Balloon"

I plan on making the balloon layer tween for...40 frames...

I put a keyframe on the 40th frame of balloon...And the layer "Bacround" dissapears!

Why?!

you will actually need to add a keyframe for the background as well and have it end on the same frame as your balloon ends on.
But in this case you will not need a tween , because it will stay still.
And to answer your question of why the last keyframe does not turn blue. This is because that is a still keyframe the actual last part of the tween ends on the frame before your last. This happens so if you want to stop your object on the last keyframe. If you don't want it to stop there you simply add another keyframe down the timeline a bit and add another tween to it.
