There are other energy sources besides petroleum. The reason that we don't convert is because of 1 all the gas stations and petroleum companies will go out of buisness and 2 these energy sourses are not very sufficent yet at a wide scaly use (except of few currently being used at a wide scale at present)

Hmm... possibly this is the golden post in which you've said something that has a dash of sense. Albeit a bit neive, you are rgiht for the most part. The real reason we are drilling in alaska is to pump up american oil companies so they can remain in business and become strong enough to buy out the GIANT oil reserves in Russia. As it stands we are amesingly close to practical alternative energy. Even though the public stance by both republican and demoractic parties is that alternative energies are far off... it's not true. So what happens? Bush cuts funding off. Really if we put what a month the U.S. spends on oil into alternative energies, I belive that by 2005 we could complelty do away with the need for petrol.

Thank you for finally acknowledging me, okay, I'm done with being a little prick and I'll extend my hand in peace now.

Thats just what I think.
I'm mad
Newgrounds is a website for 13 year olds who cannot understand the difference between "there", "their" and "they´re".

Actually Petroleum will be around for long time yet, the question is do we really want it around?
Ethanol is a good Petrol replacement & as long as your engine runs a compression ration higher than 8:1 you don't need to modify your engine to run it, By running on ethanol you get 80hp(60KW) for every 70hp(52kw) you'de get from running on Petrol, The only problem I see with ethanol is that it's obtained from vegetable matter, With ethanol as fuel all farmable land must be devoted to ethanol production in order to meet Consumer demand although Enzymes are now available that make industrial scale ethanol production viable, instead of the distillation normally required to get ethanol these enzymes break down all vegetable matter into alcohol even if it's second hand matter that is far from its original state, Ie Paper, wood, old rags, cotton, silk & some plastics can be turned into ethanol by these Enzymes.
The only emissions from the use of ethanol as fuel are water vapour & some CO2 but the vegetable matter you are growing to make the ethanol will absorb the CO2.

Actually the petrol giants have their arses covered, BP(British Petroleum, now actually Arab owned) runs one of the world's Largest commercial solar panel manufacturing opperations although as I pointed out in Tom's post Solar Energy is far from efficient, Shell(Petrol company from the Netherlands) also have some "green energy" avenues covered in their research department but I think they are only doing it to try & make people forget that one of their plants poisoned all those people in Africa.

Really? Do you know where I can get some information about this? It seems very interesting and I am glad you brought this up.

Fools! Everybody knows that the aliens are at Area 51!
By the way, all military bases with the exception of Ft. Leavenworth (Yo!) are restricted. Hell, even Ft. Leavenworth closes at about 9:00!

Described as one of the most polluted regions on earth, Shell has devestated the Niger Delta for nearly 40 years.
"They were not meeting their own standards, they were not meeting international standards. Any Shell site that I saw was polluted."
Mr Bopp van Dessel
Former head of Shell's environment studies.
The indigenous people, the Ogoni have had to tolerate pipe lines, above ground through the hearts of their villages, around their homes, and over their agricultural land. Some live under the permanent flow of gas flares or under powerlines which the Ogoni do not use or have access to.
Many gas flares have been burning continously for more than 30 years. World Wide Fund for Nature has reported that Shell's operations in Nigeria are the single biggest cause of global warming, with gas flares annually emmitting 34 million tonnes of carbon dioxide in addition to 12 million tonnes of methane from the oil fields

Yikes, that's pretty bad! This is why I think that american companies should have to deal with the same enviromental laws in foregin areas as domestic laws and compounded with foregin laws. See Foregin aid vrs. policy topic for that debate.

This is bad because our grandchildren will most likely never see those pretty rainbow-colored puddles in parking lots when it rains. Those rainbow-colored puddles are actually aliens.
