Metro 2033 has made me curious. It looks gorgeous and the gameplay videos I have watched look great. I'm just concerned it won't live up to what I want it to be because it isn't very popular. And I understand that's a lot to say. I mean, there are tons of games that have come out and are underrated or unpopular masterpieces.
The reason I'm debating on weather or not to get this game is because it would set me back $60. I don't really want to take any chances on it when instead of getting this I could get BioShock 2, which I know will at least be good. I also don't want to wait for the price to drop. I'm the type of person that when I have money, I want to spend it. So instead of waiting for it to go down in price, I would want to spend my money on something else.
All I'm really asking in this thread is for your thoughts on the game and maybe some links to gameplay videos, although I'm quite sure I've watched them all. I'm not at all interested in trailers. They don't seem to show you much of the game. It's all just fancy graphics and titles.

Achievement List (if anyone cares)

I think it'll be too linear to be good.
This too will pass.

Kinda seems like a Fallout 3 to me. I think it will be largely unnoticed and split with criticism for the people who do get it.

For as tired as the post apocalyptic genre seems to be getting, this game looks to be very innovative.
Consumable currency, for one. They make the best ammo in the game your only source of money.
And then there's the guns themselves. There's a lot of unique ideas in this game, like the Hellsing. Sure, dart guns aren't exactly new, but a pneumatic gun that you have to pump yourself with degrading accuracy, damage, and distance (and presumably upangle, as well)? A couple of games have toyed with weapon degradation, but not in as deep a sense as this.
Plus there's the extremely clever, minimalist HUD and what seems like a solid balance of gameplay approaches.

I think it looks awesome and I've been quite interested in it for awhile, unfortunately it won't run well on my PC and I don't have a 360 so I'll have to wait until one of those things changes or they port it to the PS3... I'm not optimistic that any of those things will happen any time soon.
This sig is 100% effective protection from all hexes, curses, evil spirits and bad karma. Guaranteed.

I appreciate seeing those gameplay walkthroughs. Makes me really really want the game. Looks so good. And even though I'm sure it will be linear it should still be fun like any other linear FPS, right?

If you read that review I posted a couple minutes ago (which I just read now), you will notice they make reference to BioShock and Half-Life. They say the only real problem is the shooting. You can even tell the shooting looks sloppy from gameplay videos. But all that other realism and gameplay that brings you in sounds so amazing. This seems like a game for that person that's in between a Casual Gamer and a Hardcore Gamer.
I can't wait anymore.

SPOILER ALERT
Assuming you all know the story of the game. By the end of the game, you will have had to do a lot of "evil" things such as kill people for their resources so that you can survive. When you actually do get the cure, and administer it to the kids, they become horrified with you for what you have done. The kids disappear soon after (they ran away).
The ending scene is the main character walking into a dark alley and shooting himself in the head.
There is also a scene where you apparently have to kill some puppies or something.
Man, ukrainians are a pretty depressed people.

I would say STALKER, Fallout, and BioShock.

I was shocked to see that this was one of the top pre-ordered games on Amazon. It may be decent but it doesn't look earth shattering in anyway. I guess people's standards are really falling.

That's just what we don't need. I game that's supposed to be "ground breaking".

Yeah we need more mindless sequels like Madden 54 or Guitar Hero 19!

True, but it's more the setting it has. It's a wasteland. Instead of being allowed to explore at your own free will, you're forced to go down one route.

That's not what I meant.
I just don't want another overhyped Call of Duty or . . . E.T.

I think some guy at GameStop or EB games who probably beta tested the game or something told me that it was a really good game though I'm not really sure if he'd meant he'd tried it or not.

That's my problem with the game as well. I don't really want to play a game with no multiplayer if you need to take a linear route as well.
Thnx for the sig ParadoxVoid

All these reviews seem to be good.
Buying today. But it might not be there. If not, I'll just buy something else.
GameStar (German PC magazine) = 8.5/10
Xbox 360 Magazine (UK) = 8/10
GamesRadar = 9/10
GamePro = 86%
Xbox World 360 (CVG) = 9/10
GameReactor = 7/10

IGN just gave the 360 version a 7.5/10.
Part of this is due to fail lighting on the 360 version.
Everyone thought it was going to be a big graphical difference between PC and console, but I guess they decided to half-ass the lighting on the 360 version.

The Prologue was pretty cool. I'd rate it an 8/10 so far. I just can't wait to play through the whole game.

DOnt listen to the reviews, this is an excellent game.
BTW, my computer JUST tips the minimum requirments, I have the same shit as on the minimum, and the game runs amazingly. no slowdowns. and it looks beautiful.
this is a must have.

This game has potential, what with living in a subway station during nuclear winter, Nazis, commies, managing your gas mask in the fallout and other things you may or may not have seen in shooters. The post-apoclypse earth is nothing new, nor is creepy S.O.B.s running everywhere about ready to kill you, but Metro seems to fuse these two well enough to make it somewhat unique. At $60 though, I generally wait a while and read reviews before making a purchase, nothing like spending 60 clams on a shitty game with bad graphics, clunky controls and broken A.I.
Did you know that Metro was based of a book? I'll bet not a lot people know that.
Just stop worrying, and love the bomb.

It seems okay, I don't like the idea of low ammo.
