I totally agree. Also, saddened by my lack of surprise over shit like this - it happens often. Just glad there were people that could help them push back against these obsolete and closed-minded values.

kinda makes you sick about how far people will go to shut out the people that try to express them selves..
but i bet there are a lot of things that the school could say to take the blame off.. there was talk about a unfavorable turn out at the dance. cuts to funding, not a great yearly love of dances. votes that a prom would be stupid.. ect..

Some folks have nothing better to do than throw their sexuality in someone's face. She wanted to come to the prom with her girlfriend, and she wanted to wear a tux; despite knowing school policy was that all girls wear dresses while all guys wear a tux.

When told "no," she immediately went to the ACLU. They threatened to sue the school. School canceled the prom. Now the ACLU is suing the school to get them to put the prom back on. (Yeah, good luck with that.)

Far from being some poor girl, she now has upcoming appearences on a few talk shows. She wanted to toss her sexuality in everyone's faces. The School decided they weren't going to put up with her obnoxious behavior. A prom is for having a good time. It's not the proper venue for an in-your-face, Gay Rights, demonstration.

Really, both the school and the girl are at fault. The school is at fault because it wasn't willing to bend, the entire moral fabric of society is not going to come falling apart if you allow the mixing of gender roles. The girl is at fault because she immediately exploded into a shit storm and went for third party arbitration with the ACLU. But honestly, society should be willing to bend a little for other people.

Yea, cuz these girls are the only ones in the history of the world to break school rules at the prom. I hear stories all the time about guys that come to prom drunk or high, who have sex at the prom in a shady but public area, get into fights, dance innapropriatly, and wear much, much more lewd clothing than a tux. Half of the girls i've seen at proms look like hookers. A tux is much more safe than a damn whore outfit.
Also, who is shoving their sexuality in whose face? They are basically shouting at these students "We are straight, and if you don't wanna go to hell, you better damn well be straight too!" Disagreeing and casually displaying their sexuality to show that they are not scared does not equate to "shoving their sexuality in our faces."

Nope! And I'm not trolling. I think the school did the right thing. She's not some poor little lesbian like the liberal media wants you to believe. She's an obnoxious advocate who is jumping for joy at all the media attention she's getting. There's a time and a place for everything. A prom isn't the place for basically a Gay Rights demonstration. What about the rights of all the other students? What about their right to enjoy a prom without having one or two individuals turn it into something just about themselves?

Well, are you saying that it would be okay if neither of them wore tuxedos at least? The main purpose of the prom is to create a lasting memory with the person you love. Do you think that they shouldn't be allowed to go to the prom just because they are lesbians, or do you think there is something they can do to go to the prom without "ruining the good time of all the straight people"?

Well yes I've thought about it, but it seems like an interesting response. From what I've gathered the original ACLU demand was to change a policy that disallowed same sex couples from attending. If ACLU was after them for this policy, what would it do to cancel the prom if anything it lands the school deeper in hot water because they've now said "Well, if she can attend we don't want to have it." Which has now brought the civil suit against them to reinstate the prom, and allow her attendnace under her conditions.
