4.09 / 5.00 15,161 ViewsThe reason I bring up this question is because my Xbox Live membership ran out and I don't plan on renewing it for a while. I plan on going through a lot of the single player games which I either played for a short time and abandoned, or went straight to the multiplayer mode and payed little attention to the single player. Since getting my Xbox 360 a good few years back now, online multiplayer became the main excitement of gaming for me. Single player was something I only really played if there was no other option.
This got me wondering, how many of you seriously believe that you could happily continue to play games with no online multiplayer?
Do you mainly play online multiplayer games/modes or is most of your time spent on single player?

I could definitely survive without online play, I'd just spend less time gaming.
i usally play Single Player anyway. i prefer a good 1 player game with good story then just a multiplayer shooter or something...
only game i often play online is Guitar Hero and Team Fortress 2...
In a word: Yes.
Online play has gotten to the point where it's shoved into basically every game for little to no reason. Just because they can, doesn't mean they should. Sure, I wouldn't experience the fun to be had on games like Rainbow Six: Vegas or Kane And Lynch: Dead Men and it would be sad, but oh well I guess.
This too will pass.
Memento mori
If online gaming was never invented, developers would spend more time in single player, probably vastly improving it, more so in games with multiplayer, "just because". Now, If I just had my internet un-plugged, and couldn't play online, then probably, with all of the singleplayer games I have around.
i sometimes wich that online play never was invented -.-
one thing is DLC, but the gaming itself... i don't need it...
I've went through most of my life (since 4 or 5) playing only single player games so I could go for quite a while without online play. I still dont have online today anyway so I don't count do I? I always played the single player of a game first before playing the multiplayer so I can get used to it first.

I mostly play single player games, so I would be okay with it. it would be a shame not to be able to kick some ass at Dragonball Raging Blast, though. That's about the only game i play online. Demon's Souls would not be the same either.

We made it until 2000 without online play. We can still survive without it, although it is nice to have it.
Besides, any kind of respite from online gaming indigenous prepubescent tourettes-ridden homophobe and its shrill mating call can only be a plus.

It didn't affect me that much to be honest. I can, seeing as how I perfer getting better againt the AI than getting my ass kicked by flowchart Kens thanks to LAG

It would be boring as I enjoy playing online but I spent enough years playing alone to be ok with it.

That's two.
Of course I could live without it but I wouldn't be able to play even half as much as I'd like to.
Even now I rarely get the chance to play videogames but online play alows me to have a quick game every now and then when I get the chance, without having to remember characters and storyline sand whatnot.
I can't imagine only playing CS and smash with bots, since both of those games have bad single player modes, and we're made to be played with other people. Online play is what makes cs so enjoyable for me. I'm sure if it didn't exist I wouldn't really play the game.
single player games can still be great fun, but after you beat it, then that's that. I mean, after I beat twilight princess, I never picked the game up again, because there's no point. It's just not fun after that. Online play=20x as much playtime.

Short answer: yes.
Long answer: I've grown up with Nintendo consoles up until I got a PS1 back in 2004-ish. I haven't gone online until the Xbox 360 in 2008. Boy, I wish I hadn't at times. So I can live without online.

sorry about that typo...
"games"
there. can we please move on?
Easily.
I rarely play online and when I do it's usually co-op, and I don't have that many online co-op games, so...

I don't have internet on my xbox and I'm fine with my SP PC games.
I still need to install my un-opened oblivion game that I got for 2.50 $
3 lines? Not much room. I feel cramped in this little rectangular box, yet it's still comfy.
My life sucks at times, at other times it shines... this sucks.
I honestly couldn't give a shit less about online play. I never play online, it's just always so boring. I tried playing online in GTA 4, and god it sucked.
Maybe I'm not a social person, but I think it's much more enjoyable to play NPCs instead of real users, since they're all probably low-life losers that take every second of their life mastering a video game and they'll kill me instantly.
Yup I can live with online play. It's pretty easy really (Fallout 3, Dragon Age, and Oblivion all on the PC).

Everyone rolling in a slimy mud pit screaming bloody marry, A.K.A online gaming, is the future, that I GUARANTEE. Or your money back.

I just like playing co-op games with my friends, 8 person xbox live parties make gaming so much more fun
Mushroomn. 6 years later it's kind of a dumbass name. Sorry about that
I've lived without live snice i got my Xbox so yes i could live without it.
But co op play from one 360 i could not.
I'd thrive without online play. I never could really get into multiplayer with people who are more than 5 feet away.
Well one reason i could live without online play is because all the idiots that yell and scream that i see my friend deals with.
You mean like what I'm doing right now.....then yes.

WHAT?! If I'm ever on GTA: IV now, after having completed the story a good few times, it's to play the multiplayer. I've had hours of fun from messing around with people in free mode. I don't know if this is something I should be admitting, but one Saturday afternoon I found myself in the same game for 8 hours. I couldn't believe it had been that long.

I hate playing online. Well, I don't hate it, but I certainly don't like it. It's fun for a little while then you just get burnt out. See, I like to go through life at my own pace, and that sort of reflects in how I game. I'm very slow in how I do things, and I take in as much as I can. When playing with someone, there's always that pressure you get from them to hurry it the fuck up. Somewhat same goes for Multiplayer. If I have a bad day on a single player game, I just quit and no one else cares but me. If I have a bad day on a multiplayer game, I fuck it up for 8-whoknowshowmany other people. I'm not that great at competitive games, so I feel bad when that happens, even if they're assholes.
