Don't use the pen, use the pencil and line tools.

They're superior if you're mousing it. Penning takes too long (and is generally a pain in the ass) and the brush doesn't come in handy until you acquire a steady hand.

Only reading the title and your post could lead one to an entirely different reaction...But I still agree OP should animate. I would if I had enough consecutive hours of free time, but usually I just get a lot of small breaks. Maybe someday...
