Losing your pet. 2010-02-25 15:05:41 Reply

So I am certain that a good majority of users here have at lest one pet that they love very much, so here is the question. How would you deal with losing a pet recently? Would you end up buying a new one to replace it or not even bother buying a new one since you knew that it will one day also die?

It would be a long time until I can get another, unless I found it abandoned

I lost my cat about 4 weeks ago. I had her for almost 6 years and she was my favorite pet. I didn't get a new pet becuase i already had 2 other cats and a dog.

My opinions are so useless, I don't even listen to them.

I only get pets for the pleasure of killing them.

I cried for the whole day, but afterwards it died down, and now it's not that saddening.

I ran. I ran until my muscles burned, and my veins pumped battery acid. Then I ran some more.

I've lost quite a few pets VIA them running/dissapearing away including 2 dogs, 1 cat, a guinea pig, and 2 birds.

Right now I got two dogs that are the first inside pets I've ever had but they're so pampered every time they get out they're back at the door within 10 minutes.

When pets died suddenly, crying. When they run away, hoping they will return to this day, never really recognizing they will never come back, even as their lifespan should probably be over even in the best case. In the second option there is simply no moment when you can say "now they are gone forever", its all the same as the moment before that, and when they were just running away...

I've already come to the conclusion that it will be the saddest moment of my life when I lose my dog Frankie. Sure, what does that say about me? That I'm a lonely person probably who has their priorities mixed up? Sure, that's about right. I love my dog more than anything else in this world probably and believe me I do love my family a fucking lot. I'd always and have always put them before myself, but that is just the depth of my relationship with my dog.

She depends on me and I depend on her.

I could go on but for people who don't know the joys of having pets they simply will never understand, so it's pointless to try and get people to understand it all.

Anyway, I have lost pets before, from fish to hamsters to a cat to an evil rabbit and to the old family dog. Each time was crushing. I was younger back then so didn't have much to do with the pets, besides my evil rabbit. She hated everything, she bit, she kicked, she tried to escape several times, eventually she did escape, and despite her being happier I was of course crushed.

Back when I was 9 our old family dog Charlie died. It was very sad, unbelievably. Time went by and years later I finally got my wish to get a dog, so we got this puppy Frankie, and from the moment I picked her from the litter, she was mine and I was hers. We've been inseparable since really.

She's 7 now, and I'm well aware that she won't live forever. Charlie only made it to 9, and I think the average for Border Collies is 12 and 1/2 years so it's down hill now.

Whatever happens though when she dies, despite how crushed I will be, despite how much I will miss her, I will always have pets in my life. I won't replace Frankie, besides it being impossible to replace another dog, I just wouldn't attempt to. I wouldn't get a new pet until I'm ready and even then I know I would always miss Frankie, but it's more important to me to give my love to another animal who needs it then to just give up on pets after you get the sting of losing another one.

It always hurts in the long run but giving a good life to something is more important then the pain of losing them.

i had 3 dogs and 2 cats in all my 16 years, and they lasted every one a year, all deaths by car (my 2nd dog had been killed by a carnival truck). When my last cat died i was like "whatever". Thrust me, i'll never get any other pet, if you don't want to get hurt then just feed the animals you'll find in the street

i feel like i said wrong things in this post, just do whatever you think is right

I lost my dog when he went to the pound.
Why the pound?
He bit my farking nose off.

I also lost a stupid dog (ran away) when I was younger, and two family dogs were old and we lost them (though one ran away before we did the actual losing).

Losing a pet is one of the few things I actually have sympathy for. I would definitely have to wait several years before even thinking about getting a new pet. Even then, it would be a pretty tough decision.
