4.27 / 5.00 12,427 ViewsYeah they do this all the time, from jokes about Cheney's lesbian daughter to making fun of Michael J. Fox having Parkinson.
Yeah that's fucking alright.
It wasn't even a joke. It didn't add to the story in any way. It was just a cheap shot but nothing to get pissed about, it's just a frickin cartoon. So. Yeah.
Also if this had been Obama instead of Palin, I bet you the sides would have switched pretty fast but hey we'll never know. Like if Michelle Obama had gone on tv saying it was a cheap shot to "attack" or "make fun of" their downs syndrome kid, a lot of people who are defending Seth would turn on him I bet you.

Nah it's pretty clear who they were referring to and no one from the show has denied it as far as I know.

Then why didn't he write the episode so that it was Meg going out with a boy who had Down Syndrome who's father was a consultant for an oil company, hm?

Because who the hell knows what Sarah Palin's husband does?
Everyone knows that Sarah Palin was the former governor of Alaska and has a kid with some kind of mental defect. That's the public knowledge thing, the lowest common denominator.
Better question would be: why the hell even allude to Palin at all in the episode? It wasn't a joke and wasn't relevant to the plot.
I'm pretty sure he did it because she's an easy target for his regular audience. Palin is the new Bush after all. She's a low-hanging fruit and Family Guy is a lazy midget without a ladder.

So you're telling me that someone who spent 5 minutes on Google looking up background info on why marijuana was outlawed in the United States for an episode about Legalizing Marijuana didn't bother to do the research necessary to get his facts right on something so insidious as a crack at Palin for having a kid with down syndrome? Really?
Seth should make fun of Obama but he will never do that.
Well we were dumb enough to think it was gonna happen.

Probably because they wanted to use that particular voice actress and also because that would probably be a long way to go just for that one stupid joke.
It also might break canon a little bit (Meg is supposed to be unattractive and unlovable to everyone except fucking weirdos, even for people with down syndrome. It's cruel, but that's how the character is designed.)

I think the main reason is that Seth MacFarlane doesn't give a shit and it's not really important anyway.

You just said that it was SO horrible about her using her grand-daughter to promote her image. So how is MacFarlane using her infant grand-daughter any different?
Just for the record; it's Palin's son that has downs-syndrome, not Bristol's bastard child.

The whole episode was a long way to go just for that one stupid joke, which is why I believe that it's not only dumb for people to be upset about it but it's even dumber for Sarah Palin to use it to garner sympathy for herself as a mother with a child who has downs.

Then why are people up in arms about this? Out of the long line of offensive jokes that Family Guy has made over the years, why is THIS the joke (which McFarlane didn't even spotlight by making it into a cutscene) that gets people pissed off?

Cause it's Sarah Palin.
That means that if she gets pissed, she goes to her tv friends and they showcase her, which in turns means that's what people like Colbert, Jon Stewart or Bill Maher will have to talk about because they like stupid news stories which in turn means the real media will talk about it because now everyone is talking about it so it passes as news.

The joke probably took no additional effort at all. They probably wrote the plot for the episode and brainstormed down syndrome jokes afterwards. Zero extra mileage. Meanwhile, rewriting the episode just for that one insignificant joke would have been loads of shit for nothing at all.
They didn't do ANYTHING special for that joke, I saw the episode just a few hours ago. It was a quick remark that was over as suddenly as it began and there was no further fuss about it at all. I'm surprised Palin even caught this. Now that I think about it, where was she when that porn company made "Who's Nailin' Palin?"

Because they are retarded.

Remember during the campaign when they accused Barack Obama of being a "celebrity"? Like that was the most horrible thing you could be, right up there with the worst of criminals? Yeah...something tells me The Republicans will not be leveling that charge in the next round of elections....

I wouldn't. I'd still laugh. He's made of plenty of things I can get pissy about, but I don't, know why? "it's just a frickin cartoon."
Palin needs to just shut her mouth.
Sarah Palin is why we can't have nice things, she should go back to Alaska.
I think Halo is a pretty cool guy. eh kills aleins and doesnt afraid of anything. Way didnt sye pik cell it is a good fighter!howwouldImake a thingmovewiththearrowsorsomething
Sarah Palin should apologise for bringing an abomination into the world and not having an abortion instead.
If anybody wants to make fun of "Family Guy" she should make fun of it by saying that the show is stupid because it has things like talking dogs and talking babies which of course is not meant to be taken seriously. She should complain about how every episode has ten cutaway jokes that have nothing to do with anything; that'll stop the fans from watching "Family Guy". lol

He has the freedom to tell Palin to shut it.
Also the constitution of the U.S.A doesn't apply to the interwebs.
I think Palins blowing smoke over nothing, but when it comes to her I'm not surprised at all by her reaction.

No. A thousand times FUCK NO. As much as I hate even going near the subject of abortion, he has a point; she was 44 when that kid was born, which automatically increased the chances of any kid she gave birth to having chances for serious developmental or genetic problems... like downs. If anything, every last person reading this should be appalled at her using the results of her stale ovaries as a rallying point to garner sympathy for herself.
Sarah Palin needs to realize that she is too much of a dumbass and that 75% of our country is laughing AT her and the other 25% just day dreams about fucking her.
I fall into that very 25%

25% is probably pretty generous.

Which I said awhile back and got yelled at for. To me that's a bigger issue then what some overrated cartoonist does on his friggin show. Right or wrong, the thing that aggravated me most about the situation was McFarlane gave Palin yet another excuse to remind everybody she's the struggling super awesome mom of a down's child. Nevermind that there's the great point proteas just made, or that her oldest daughter became an unwed teenage mother. Sarah Palin is a sympathetic hero and a family values candidate dammit!!!
