I usually don't like them, but I decided to try to make one just so I have a broader sense of flash movie making. But when I put my sprites and backgrounds in the flash file, it gets massive. Is there a way to make the megabytes less? I don't know, maybe compress the images or something? If anyone has a word of advice on sprite movie files I'd like to hear it! :D

If you don't like em, don't bother doing em. Flash animation is more about tweens, puppets, and FBF. Sprite animations is just another form of tween and puppet animations. Sorry, I don't know y the file is so big.

50% of animating with flash is being able to draw, 45% is understanding motion mechanics, and 5% is knowing how flash works so you can compile your skills together. Therefore, sprites really don't help much, just the 5% you can learn by doing something else, because flash's drawing tools are something you have to get used to, it really isn't the same to work with vector and rasters, they feel different and the tools work in different ways.

I would suggest getting googling for a pixel addon for your version of flash and drawing your own sprites. Not only would it greatly reduce the size of the file, but you would gain an even broader sense of flash movie making.
