File size issues, please help. Feb. 15th, 2010 @ 03:42 PM Reply

Is there a program that i can download free of charge and free of licence to just resize my mp3 music because right now all ive been able to find were periodical licenced programs that, what else.. all have ran out of 'trial' time now and i cant find the above on the search engine.

My file is 15mb in size, 6-7 minutes long and i cant cut anything off or it will ruin the piece.

Or is there some kind of option in audacity or something that i dont know about that will lower the size?

Hope someone of you will help me cause this is very irritating.

No, not in Audicity.
Sorry it looks like your going to have to trim down the song. :(

You MIGHT be able to rezise the file in Windows Sound Recorder tool, other then that you'll need to get something like Adobe Audition. Or check the preferences for saving in Audacity, I'm sure you can adjust the bit rate. Or at least find a plug in that will.

What? You can edit the export settings to result in a smaller file.

15 mb for 6 minutes song sounds like a 320kbps mp3 file. try exporting it as a more compressed file.

128 kbps at 44100 16bit the file should be about 6mb

God forbid you look around. When you are in the 'export' dialogue, when it shows you a directory and is prompting for a filename, there's a little 'options' button. press it.

You should have said change the export setting.
Might have confused him there, also, he might not even know what that is.

If your still having trouble, Calamaistr, look at the screenshot posted by the user above me and click where it says "Save as type:" and select mp3 if it's not already selected.

If your still having trouble after that, get this. Once you download it, downgrade to the free version and lower the output quality of your song or render it as another format.

God forbid you look at the documentation for your given version.

I now know you're running one of the 'stable' releases, or perhaps an old version. Your mp3 export settings are under edit > preferences. Pretty obvious place for them.

i now do posess a 6.8 mb version of the piece but the quality is bad, now normally that wouldnt be a problem seeing as i make lowfi music all the time but this is a lounge adagio piano piece.

Im currently also waiting for FL8 doing a re-render on 128 or whatever it was, its on 70% still after like 2 hours so ill leave it running while i sleep in a moment.

I hope the FL8 one will be better, and if not ill just upload a bad quality one i guess and put the quality version (the original of 15+ mb) on my mp3 player.

Greets.

Greets.

6sync interpolation render is probably good enough and will take like 1/4th the time. Otherwise just render your things over night at full specs, then re-render the mp3 from 320kbps into lower settings as need be for file size constraints. Rendering an mp3 from 320kbps to 128kbps takes like a minute maybe at full settings, saves the pc having to exert itself.

Render your tracks at the final desired bit rate. If you take an mp3 and step it down into a lower bitrate mp3, you're just going to introduce more artifacts.

Which makes a low sound quality for your song, which is NOT worth it.
It is best to just trim your song down.
There really is no need for an 8 min song, like really.

No doubt. It might be easiest to make your final render out of fl a wav, then you're free to play with going to mp3/ogg/wma/whatever format you need, without another lengthy export.

Well, most people on newgrounds loose interest at 5 min songs.
