3.80 / 5.00 4,200 ViewsI seem to find older games a lot harder than new games for some reason. I can complete pretty much all my Xbox 360 games on normal without that much difficulty, but if I revisited older games I seem to get stuck a lot more often, and just generally find them harder. For example, i'm currently attempting Resident evil 1 on the Gamecube (on easy) and I'm finding that a lot harder than a lot of my newer console games. DOOM is another example of a game I found hard to complete (on co-op).
Were games just harder or am I so used to current gen consoles that i'm finding it hard to adjust? does anybody else find this happening to them?
new games are easier most likely to have more appeal to a casual audience. I wouldn't want to play something that was mind cripplingly hard. Although I suppose that's why they have difficulty levels
Generally, games have gotten easier; the main reason for the spurt of popularity in the FPS genre is that most people can play them because they're easy to play, hard to master. Some old FPS' used to be really hard.
That isn't always the case, though, as can be seen in Demon's Souls, which is really fucking hard and is recent.
older games are harder. no checkpoints. no saving.

Older games are harder for a few reasons.
You didn't have any direction, no idea where to go, this kept you somewhat confused. You would only get a few lives, no checkpoints, no saves, so each time you shut off the console, you had to restart the entire game. They weren't harder, just more confusing.

Not really. Most of the older games were pretty straightforward. It wasn't possible to make games as expansive and long as nowadays, so the games had to be really difficult in order to have a decent lifespan. And gaming companies are trying to cater to a more casual audience, in order to increase their sales.

A lot of the difficulty from old games comes from the fact that way back when, the arcades were still king, and it made sense to make games hard so that players would give the machine more money for another chance to beat the game.

You're a lot more like that faggot than I am. The only reason you're even comparing me to him is because I hate you.
Anyway, no, there are NOT harder. If you'll notice, probably 90% of the games don't have difficulty settings. In fact, the only one I can think of that has that is Megaman 2. The "difficult" option made the game extremely hard, but the "normal" option made it the easiest Megaman game ever made.
So, because difficulty settings were very uncommon, the games were, by default, very hard because that would keep the game being fun and challenging without the need to program a difficulty switch. Now, games of today have difficulty settings with every release, and the hard modes are, as usual, quite challenging. People just think the normal setting should already be pretty hard.

I think you just like arguing. You're good at it.
That' s cause the human race is getting wimpier every day, we "need" easier games.

What we need to do is make Ninja Gaiden part of our school curriculum. Beat the game, pass the class. Don't, repeat the school year.

Personally, I just believe games are getting easier because of modern techniques like being able to save from almost any given point and tutorial levels. It's not like developers are trying to make their games easier, it's just how video games are progressing.

Newer games usually have difficulty modes now though.
It's funny though because you'd think older games would be easier considering everyone was knew to the idea of consoles haha.
