Poetry Theme Challenge 1 2010-02-04 23:39:16 Reply

I tried a collab, that didn't work. I'm thinking something a bit less intimidating, or prone to degrading into random rambling, would be a good activity. A Theme Challenge is a challenge to writers to create the best possible poetry fitting the provided theme. If this sticks, this could be a weekly thing. For now, I promise nothing.

This challenge's theme is Existentialism. This is a theme that a lot of poets like to tackle because of it's abstract nature. Here are the rules:

1. You can only submit 1 piece.
2. Your piece can only be 1 post long.
3. Before you post, you must critique at least 1 other poem.
3.2 Try to critique a piece that hasn't gotten any attention.
3.3 If all poems have received attention, then choose the one with the least attention.
3.4 If all poems have the same amount of attention, you may pick which one you want to critique.

That's all, only 3 rules. I'll kick things off with something I wrote for my blog and was wholly ignored. Here it is, revived.

----------------------------------------

I'm so unimportantly important.
Or is it importantly unimportant?
Either way, I'm in a portent,
And perhaps that may be good.

Or per chance, could it be bad?
These contradictions can make me awfully mad.
Damned if I am, or damned if I'm not?
Or is it blessed that I am what I am?

Should the universe be so kind as to provide a hint?
Maybe my whole life has been a hint,
each day offered as another chance to get it.
Or maybe I already get it?

Some say ignorance is bliss, and
I in my ignorance blissfully agree.
It's easy to trust that the truth will come-
that scares the shit out of me.

Do I really want to know the truth?
To shatter my ignorance in a single moment,
with truth so pure it tastes like a lie?
Is this really what I want?

No.
Yes?
Maybe...
Another item added to the list of "I don't knows."
