Charging a fee for Playstation network. Like Xbox Live's Monthly fee.

It's not like they couldn't... Though now I don't have a reason to get a PS3.

Nintendo was looking at a "pay-to-play" policy a while back, but they turned it down. Sony might not do it, especially since free online was the only reason ANYBODY bought a PS3, that and MGS4.

I don't think it'll be as bad as M$'s charging for EVERYTHING.

The question is if they'll keep multiplayer free. If they do, they won't make any money.

Son of a fucking bitch. I loved my PS3, but it's taking a crap on my shoes too many times now.
Still, no way I'd buy a Crapbox 360. I'll stick with Single Player games, assuming that doesn't become obsolete.
I usually frequent the VG and collaboration Forums. If you find me anywhere else, I'm lost and can't find my way back.

I think this may kill the playstation. because one large part of gaming these days is a online experience (such as multilayer), and thats why a free version of it was greatly liked but when you start charging for said experience then you are taking a risk.
i wouldn't mind if sony did this, as long as they kept internet browsing free and had amazing extras for those that pay, but if they do not then ill become less interested in the PS3

It wont be like Xbox LIVE gold. Initial online will probably be free, perks and what not will be an optional charge.
And close to surpassing Xbox 360 sales? Hah. Ya got a long way to go.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing.. the amount of stuff Microsoft charges for it's just unreal that Sony is anywhere near taking over the sales.

Yeah, maybe they should just charge solely for the use of Home and see how it goes. Charging for multiplayer in-game and removing one of the advantages Sony has over the 360 might really hurt them. As it is, PS3 isn't really known for good online gameplay. Charging for it might be disastrous.

It would be a bad move, the free subscription was one of Sony's main advantages of Xbox. If that does happen it would just turn the PS3 into an expensive 360.

Yeah, I can't see Sony actually being stupid enough to make online play something you have to pay for. Can you imagine the shit-storm that would emerge if one day everyone was enjoying an online multiplayer game on their PS3 and the next they had to pay for it. There's nothing that could prepare their installed base for that. Even if they wanted to they're kind of stuck now.

Well damn. I sure hope they won't charge you for everything. I will not pay for being able to pay for stuff in the Playstation Store if it comes to that. Multiplayer? Well, I don't play online that much anyway.

Home is not an excuse to charge, considering how absolute diabolical it is.
This too will pass.

they've already come to the conclusion to add a premium fee months ago. Meaning ps3 owners already get what they have now plus whatever this premium fee offers. Most likely free annual qore membership, beta vites, exclusive home access and probably the party chat system whenever they get around to it.
It's not like they're charging kids money just to play online. That's their main selling point because of the fact that they don't. It's in their damn commercials "Free online". They can have the "Not-Free gay features".
This rumor says nothing other then add more rumors to the fact that a premium service may arrive. And they still have said nothing of confirmation of that.

Now I own a PS3 myself, but I hardly use it.
I can't wait to witness all the PS3 community pay for online, especially the ones who try to mock the Xbox because of the charge. "Lol. You pay to play online." Oh how I can't wait to call some people that make comments like this hypocrites.
I see nothing wrong with Sony charging for online. They could be making so much more money if they did. I have no objection to paying my £40 yearly Xbox Live charge. It works out at less than £1 a week anyway.

PSN is a fucking joke as a product. As a free service, it's decent, but as a pay for service? Forget that. I enjoy my PS3. I find it to be a great console that has a wide selection of games. It's not an online gaming machine though, plain and simple. I'm not paying for a service AND dealing with a less than adequate first person shooter controller, which less face it, most online games are.

I've already wasted $50 on Live, there's no way I'd pay for PSN service. And games like MAG where gameplay is online only would suffer. Sony would be on their own.
Hope this doesn't go through, they've been doing well lately, don't want them getting too cocky by going against one of their selling points.

Nah, I'm not seeing it happen. Free online seems to be the pride and joy of every PS3 owner I know; it also seems to be the first thing somebody mentions when considering buying a PS3. Noway Sony would be foolish enough to charge for it. As mentioned previously, it's probably some sort of premium service made available in addition to free online play.

wtf? they do this and I won't buy from sony anymore. What are they going to prove if they do that? They'll just make people angry and I don't think anyone in their right mind would pay a monthly fee just to play ps3 games online.

I wonder what they could possibly want to charge for, seems silly to me to decide to charge a fee for some mysterious, unnanounced premium content. But when they do announce that they are "considering" something, it usually means they've decided that they are going ahead with it.
