I want to write a novel in which, once a chapter, it is vaguely hinted at that one of the main characters is actually an octopus.

I want to write a short story (or maybe a single chapter in a novel) in which predictability is used to my advantage. For example, a group of characters are to have a meeting in an office. Before anything else happens, a man walks into the office and puts cyanide pills in all of the coffee mugs, and leaves. The story ends with all of the characters reaching some sort of great business agreement, and then collapsing and dying.
