Actually, it isn't surprising at all. The reason the pirates are doing is this is so that they get more recruits. If people say "oh the pirate help people by giving stuff to people in need" they will want to find a way they can get involved and so on.

While this is crazy, the people in Haiti practically have nothing so they will take this offer with ease. They want to help out all they can also, while helping themselves, so they will help the pirates capture ships to get more 'booty'.

Yes, the idea is stupid, but people do stupid things in times of desperations. I guess this is better than being homeless in Haiti with gangs raping women and stealing from others.

The Somali Pirates are a pretty rough bunch. They'll fuck you up, that's for sure.

Maybe this is a turning point for them, though. First they give to haiti, next they'll be appearing on Oprah.

Then they'll write a book, Oprah will endorse it, and millions of bored housewives will read it and cry. Soon Dr. Phil reunites the Somali pirates with their family, they all have a good family moment, and then the Somali pirates get jobs as accountants and dockworkers. Everyone winds up happy.
