Hey again guys. Every week I'll be posting a new animation challenge for you guys to practice with. just post a link here to your entry. It makes for great practice and should improve your animation skills.
For this week, try to animate a person jumping. Be creative if you want. But try to get a sense of gravity and weight into your work. Otherwise it'll end up looking like a crappy floating tween. Ya kno?...yeah ok. Lets see those jumps then.

Okay I made another one, it's better than my last one would have been. I think the gravity is pretty good. Opinions?

Great work, Hope to see more from you.
Here's my contribution at this weeks challenge. It's a week old but I will do something new soon. Hope you like it.

It's a little too simple in my opinion. Can you jump exactly like that? I bet you cant, my suggestion is that you take a camera and record yourself jumping then watch the tape a few times and animate what you see happening in the video. Hope I helped in some way.

thanks for the advice, it was a little hard to make as my tablet pen has slipped away from existence forcing me to use my laptop trackpad.

It's got quite a few hiccups, but here it is.

Mabelma; Thanks! Also, I really like your jump, but he just needs to bend his legs a little more, and he needs to stay on the same ground plane so that we can tell how high he's jumping. There also seems to be an erroneous frame while he's about to jump into in the air; the anticipation frame. If his arms are in that position on the anticipation, they should still be in the air when he jumps rather than down at his side. I think you had two different jumping ideas while animating it, so maybe getting rid of that one frame and see how it looks. Yours is one of my favorites so far!
BeefyBoy; Thank you! Makes me want to spend the time to go back over it.
PBass; Really awesome! Like that that slightly subtle anticipation before he jumps, and the overlaps as previously mentioned. Maybe making it so that as soon as he lands he's getting ready to jump again will give it a smoother look. There's a slight pause right now.

Thanks Bubbowrap and Dave!
Also, real nice job Dave, I love how smooth the rotation is and how well the motion transfers. It's awesome.

Work on the anticipation of the jump and the landing. Remember to get the kangaroo to bend it's knees before and after the jump (it's jumping by the pure force of it's ankles lol). I can see that the kangaroo does bend it's knees in the air, but the jump from the bent knees frame seems to be very abrupt so the motion looks choppy.
I suggest you use that bent knees frame before and after the jump (with a bit of easing) to save you some time of redrawing and such.
The kangaroo also seems to keep a very stationary spine when jumping. I'm not well informed in kangaroos but I think it makes it look somewhat unnaturally stiff.
It looks great so far but you could make a it a lot better with a few tweeks.

sure, very low FPS, but Im quite happy with the result, stickman animations are harder for me to make because its hard to know whats happening, with solid bodies you know which arm is which.

Use a lower framerate or add in a duplicate frame every other frame where you need too. There are some bits that would need to be quick but there's no distinguishable change in force or speed in the jump!

Yeah, I need more anticipation. But kangaroos do jump with their ankles, that large joint is actually their ankle! I just have the foot bending on the bottom, so it looks like another foot.
And the back does bend, but only when the tail is moving to counterbalance the kangaroos weight.
Ah well, I try and create something better later.
