3.80 / 5.00 4,200 ViewsChina warns of a "serious negative impact" on relations with the US, over a planned $6.4bn US weapons sales to Taiwan. This is only increasing tension between the US and China. Anyone seeing China reacting with weapons? Or is the US planning to use Taiwan as a surrogate in the upcoming war against China? Or does the US just need a little money?
Arms being sold;
114 Patriot missiles ($2.81bn)
60 Black Hawk helicopters ($3.1bn)
Communication equipment ($340m)
2 Osprey mine-hunting ships ($105m)
12 Harpoon missiles ($37m)

IIRC Didn't China overrun Taiwan or something, they claim it as there 23rd province, so it would make sense for them to be there? Or is Taiwan full of people constricted to the island?

Rephrase your question?
China denies the fact that Taiwan is its own country, even though it really is.
Good.

Considering China's military might how does Taiwan have that much sovereignty? Couldn't they just overrun it?

No because we're supposed to be the guys protecting it, so they screw with Taiwan, they trigger WW3.
Good.
to answer some questions...
after WW2 the Republic of China (ROC) received Taiwan as war spoils from japan... also after WW2 civil war broke out in the republic of china, the new group being the Peoples Republic of China (PRC)... in 1949 the PRC was victorious so anyone loyal to the ROC fled (for lack of a better word) to Taiwan, who to this day still claim to be governed by the ROC... here is where it gets confusing... since the PRC won the civil war they claim to the world that they control Taiwan Despite the fact the ROC has there "feet on the ground"...

But Britain had no problem when the Chinese invaded and took over Hong Kong......

Fix yout history. Britain handed over Hong Kong in 1997 peacefully.

I seriously doubt the chinese have the audacity to pull off any hostile actions towards the United States. Such actions would come with great backlash from the global community. I'm talking WWIII here - and I don't think China is willing to risk that, at the moment at least.
What a bunch of whiny fucks. How are we supposed to get money to pay off the massive debt we owe to them if we can't sell a vast array of weaponry to the neighbor they've been locked in a decades-long struggle with?

Point taken. You're absolutely right. I don't exactly know why it had to be Taiwan we're dealing with. China-US relations were beginning to look pretty good and now we pull this shit and fuck it all up.

Not necessarily, a country only exists as a country when a certain amount of countries officially recognise it as a country, it's not necessarily a country if the people living there share the same values, language and culture.

Ahhh and now watch Conservatives lash out at Obama for ruining US-Chinese relations, even though last month they were on him for being to too weak.

Basics:
America doesnt like China, and vise versa.
China makes lots of goods, America buys.
Products are polluted, public backlash.
China and America rub together the wrong way due to public opinions and different governments (lets face it america hates the commies)
America and China wont attack due to the amount of trade that goes on, but that doesnt mean that they have to like each other.
China and the United States will never, ever go to war with one another. I know forever is a long fucking time, but the Chinese and United States' economies are so intertwined with each other that war is an absolute impossibility. The US imports too much of China's crap for China to consider losing out on the export profits or the US businesses losing out on cheap, available products.
You can disagree with your local car dealer all you fucking want but if he gives you a deal, your gonna keep shit cordial. Both countries benefit too much from peace to even have half a thought of ending it.

Correction: Taiwan was a part of China until Japan defeated China in the First Sino-Japanese War (1894-1895). China just took back what was stolen from them.

Well I'm a conservative and I'm actually quite flattered by this, as I oppose China and their culture of censoring and lack of civil rights to it's people.

China's navy is nearly non-existent, and if North Korea can't reach Hawaii, I doubt China could. Thats not to mention, the US has the most powerful navy on Earth, so any landings China may do will result in high casualties. Generally its not anything either side wants.
