I keep a running file of any ideas i have, here is a vague one that i've never really be able to build upon. Any suggestions?
One day, a boy, for no particualr reason, gains an odd ability. whenever he falls asleep - by either being KO'd or naturaly sleeping - his soul seperates from his body. Basically, he becomes a ghost. in this state, he can see other spirits - ussually of those who have recently died. He may also see angels and demons and can at times influence people, particularly when they are asleep themselves.
I thought about including a messed up past with the boy, getting him entagled between a ghost and demon, and/or having him meet someone else with the same ability, but nothing much has developed. Any ideas?

The boy can not return to his body for a strange reason. His parents end up cremating the body.
Just an idea.

I agree with Trevor (as usual). The boy has some sort of trouble getting back to his body and can't. Or you could make it an emotional struggle with the boy deciding whether he likes it in the physical or spiritual world (think Matrix with theological problems). Just a suggestion.

unlike the others i think this is a good idea. maybe he and the other person team up to protect people from the demons and help the recently departed find peace.

The other ideas are great (and probably better than this one), but you might be able to make him into some kind of Grim Reaper character. He helps guide souls into the Afterlife.

So instead of Neo (keeping with my Matrix storyline), he's more like Morpheus. I like that idea.

I doubt that leaving your body would be healthy, especially with all those demons around. One of them might try to possess him while he's a ghost. That would be an interesting subplot. Or maybe he can go into other bodies the same way he returns to his body? And maybe you can throw in an Ouiji Board that he uses to communicate while he's a ghost.
