Tell me about yourself, my friend. 2010-01-27 21:24:11

I never knew that there was a writer's fourm in this part. I'm excited.
Well, since I am new to here, but not to Newgrounds, I thought-- why not ask the obvious question.

What's your name?

And then, maybe, write more about your goals, what you've accomplished, what is your most current project, and tell me who you read and why do you read that person. And maybe provide a link to one of your stories.

Also, maybe state if you have good grammar, mediocre, bad, or you just don't give a fuck. Okay now, I hope to know a lot of the writers right here. I will go first.

My actual name is Che Enrique. My real name.
You may call me Che, or Enrique. Either one suits me.

I am aspiring to be a playwright, but I also write short fictions. I gave up writing on "that book." It's never gonna be finished.

But I wrote a feature length play called "the Butterfly in the War." It's a story about an American soldier being haunted by a deaf Iraqi girl. It was nominated at my school being the best play (I wrote this, literally, in a month-- all 125 pages.)

The bigger accomplishment was that it got nominated as an alternative reading selection in the San Francisco New Works Fund. That meant, who actually won goes first... and I could go second if there was time. (There wasn't enough time.)

During December, I sent a query letter to several professional theaters. I got a response to one, who actually WANTED to read my play, even though I don't have an agent. This was quite an accomplishment. TheatreWorks don't accept stuff from newbies unless it's good.

So, in 6 months time, I will get another response saying that they will buy it or not. Wish me luck.

I am getting a literary agent. My professor sent my script to this guy in New York, and he wants to represent me. But only if I can write another script. I am currently writing my second feature length play. It's about the Pink Triangles. Once I have a second script, I can be contracted with their agency.

Last year, a short play called "Morning Has Broken" was produced on stage at the 3-day-play festival at San Jose State. You can actually view it on youtube if you go through my blogs and get that link.

As for my grammar... let's say that I'm god awful when it comes to composing stuff. But I'm exceptional at editing. I am a better editor of other people's stuff. In fact, I've finished my minor in business editing, and I did well.

Let's just say that I could be a grammar Nazi if I wanted. I've had formal education in grammar, and passed the teaching requirement for it. In fact, I can teach English right now if California hired new teachers.

But writing jack shit with atrocious spelling suits me better.
In fact, come to me if you need somebody to edit your writing. And NEVER say things like, "there's a bunch of spelling mistakes," and whatever. People need to make those mistakes to get it out of them.

And, now my friend,
Tell me about YOU.

My Name is Simon

I have been writing poetry for a long time. Too long. But I love it. I have had poems (about 15 - 16) published in several magazines. Most recent for an academic journal that deals with accounting. I have been included in an anthology of 5 poets from a small press publication in Sydney, Australia. I have good grammar but my spelling is not. I have received an award for a one act play back in the 80's.

My greatest accomplishment - my two kids. My greatest peice of wiritng? A poem called "Poem Noir" in the long form which is a tribute to film noir. Problem with it is that Dorothy Porter did the same at the same time called "Monkey's Mask". Hers is a book, mine only goes for about 20 pages. Oh and numerous love poems to my wife.

Only entered one competition for writing and that was the playwriting comp. May step up the writing this year, time and research permitting (family too!)

Great to see a writer's forum here. This site is way too cool for school.

My full name is Zachary John "Titus" Jones.

My goals with writing are simple. I simply want to entertain. I have no aspirations for making the world a better place with my words. There are so many people who have already done that. If I can get a person to laugh or at least care about my works, then I'm happy. One of my goals to be a humorist with a weekly column for a publication of some sort.

What have I accomplished? Not a whole lot. I've had a letter published by my school's newspaper and I am currently in two writing classes, but really I haven't done anything. I hope someday to be able to get a book out. That would be lovely.

My current project is a humor story for this board. No spoilers, but it should be out very soon.

I like to read Charles Dickens, Mark Twain, George Orwell, and Steven King. Why do I like these guys? They entertain me. That's really about it.

Link (Scroll down to my long post)

Also, maybe state if you have good grammar, mediocre, bad, or you just don't give a fuck.

I would say that I have good grammar, but that's up for you to say.

What's your name?

My name is Jack Romaine

And then, maybe, write more about your goals, what you've accomplished, what is your most current project, and tell me who you read and why do you read that person. And maybe provide a link to one of your stories.

My goal is to either turn my writing into a career or at least to get extra money and share art, I've accomplished little as I've only just finished my first story though it is 26 pages long which is good I guess plus I have many other story Ideas. My current project is a short story about 2 Grave Robbers, 2 Police Officers, A police investigator, A widow, two shovels, and one bullet. I don't read much but when I do I love it, the only books I fell in love with were A Series Of Unfortunate Events. Link to my just finished story

Also, maybe state if you have good grammar, mediocre, bad, or you just don't give a fuck. Okay now, I hope to know a lot of the writers right here. I will go first.

I'm ok at grammar I tend to make mistakes but I believe I pretty much know all the rules and stuff.

Also good luck with that playwright of yours.

It's so hard to find original names for poems, but I've heard that sometimes... you can use the same name. There are several books named "The Island" by different authors.

My second play I'm writing, it's about a pianist who loves Beethoven. He's a Pink Triangle survivor of the Holocaust. And it's named "The Immortal Beloved." (At least, for now.)

But there's already a movie called "Immortal Beloved" and it's about Beethoven too.

I'm still using the title unless I find another better title.

So, as far as I can tell you, go ahead and use "Poem Noir."
Maybe you'll discover a better name.

And it's nice to know you write poetry to your wife.
I don't allow my family to read my stuff. I don't know-- I write very intimate stuff and it's like exposing myself to them if I showed my plays to them.

My name is Josh but most people call me Fergy (yes I've also been called Fergalicious). I am a total nerd (yes I've gotten into the whole Star Wars vs. Star Trek argument.) I am better at math and science than anything else, and almost everything I've written was for school, although I have written some mediocre poetry. I would only consider myself a writer because I have ideas for plots of movies and crap like that. Personally, I would like to go either to the Naval Academy and enlist as a pilot in the Marines, or go to MIT. Either way, I plan to become an astronaut, either NASA, or a private sort of deal (you know like the guy who built and flew Spaceship 1). The only writing I've done for something outside of school was something I like to call "All Your Coco" (yes, it is an "All Your Base" parody) a couple of weeks ago and posted that on a discussion board on the I'm With Coco page on Facebook. Yesterday, I posted that on these forums under the topic " somethin i hope you will find funny"
If I ever wrote something(professionally), it would probably be a short story or poem, and I would use a pseudonym. I usually read Gary Paulson books; H.G. Wells; some science fiction books, mainly the classics (The Invisible Man; The Time Machine; The War of the Worlds.), but I've never read any Star Wars books or Star Trek novels (I would like to though).

As for grammar, I'm from the South, but I was raised by my grandparents, who speak "proper English". So I know how to speak well, but I choose not to. My main problem with grammar as far as school goes is basically everything you learn after 6th grade. So I guess you could say I don't really give a fuck.

Um, isn't this why we have a lounge? I think this is why we have a lounge.

We really don't need a "hi I'm new here" or "introduce yourself" type topic.
