So I animated this flaming piece of shit.

Still unedited, though, so some of the movements in the arm and legs look weird.

You shouldn't. You've just started with the program, when you come over and look at me, who's literally been animating off and on for 4 goddamned years and yet I still suck this bad.

Who you should be envying is the guy who made this, who just happens to be the man commonly believed nowadays to be the very best Pivot animator in the world.

He goes by Picto and sometimes we all have tea on Saturdays.

He is really, really good dude, he's one of like three active Elites and he is by far one of the best.

I still say Olixflix is kinda better though.

I don't know any of the new elites. All i remember is Atok. And the old school elites bert and jon but they're stuff wouldn't pass for even vets or even inters these days.

We all have had DD accounts in the past. Most of the people here (read: all of them except for one) quit because of the unfair ranking standards, dickish members and staff, and for other reasons. I, though, keep coming back (because the community and standards are much lighter now). I still visit daily, and I actually posted that animation in the beginner's chat before I posted it here, lol.

My sig actually has me getting the 10000th post in the second Beginner's Chat thread. :3

My inters thread is locked due to some guy posting past the 7 day limit. I haven't made any real projects so i dont post them there. Any wips I have made you can search for them in the inters show off section. The ranking system is much harsher on DD then it is in other common pivot forums. You really gotta know what the rank team is looking for. Study what's gotten other guys promotions and attempt something similar. That works for inters at least. For vets you need to invent your own techniques and styles. Then for elites you just need to be popular and good(IMHO). The vets section is where its at if you want to see some awesome stuff.

Well considering I'm about a good 150 frames from med intermediate in DD's eyes I think I've got it down pretty well.

Well you had some beginner guy tell you to make something longer which is what you have to do, but I've never seen you make something past 50 frames. Smooth movements alone wont get you to inters in DD. You need something to catch the eyes of the rank team. A backflip, and a bunch of test animations wont do the trick man. You need a wow factor animation. You need backgrounds, you need objects, you need camera effects, you need an animation with more then one stick ect, and for sure you need something 100-200+ in frames.

By the way, that picto guy is good, but his animations aren't very action-packed, they're more cinematic than anything, full of ordinary stuff that most of us wouldn't have the will or the time to animate.

I sarted with Pivot somewhere in 2008 or was it 2007?...
I've been animating off and on as well, so i don't really know how much time i've spent on it all in all.
Still you guys are so much better than me, i'll keep practicing and hopefully get skills like you some day.
I don't think i'll ever reach Picto's level...

It's all relative. I'd rather have an animation that entertains rather then bores us to death with the attempt to make something pretty. Some try too hard on the making their animation look good, they forget who their common audience is. It's not animators or pivoters. It basic people who usually have no knowledge of the craft. A person like that wouldn't give a second glance at some of those "elite" animations, in favor of something maybe more basic and entertaining.

But thats DD standards for you. They care less about the purpose of animation and too much on quality. What good is an animation, if it's boring? Personally I'd rather watch limped's stuff all day. He had quality animations but at the same time, they were basic and awesome.

Bah, screw DD. When we were active members there, all they did was nitpick at every aspect in an animation to the point to were they break you. I'm all for critisism, but fuck. Mabey it's just me but I don't find being harsh ALL the time being a good learning tool.

I've also heard some schetchy stuff about them tamporing with other sites, but that's more than likely BS.

Hey everyone, I think I can see Hijack there :P.

But to answer you, woflmaydie, the "sketchy" stuff about them tamporing with other websites is true, unfortunately, the first forum I joined, HP (Hijakc is there too :P) was spammed by some members form DD.

Anyway, nice to see some pivot animtiors on NG. :D

It wasn't members from DD, it was Jack/Jessica and his army of lifeless tortured souls.

I'm pretty sure he only did it because he was on his period and needed someone to bitch to.

Not bad, but I think you should look up some tutorials on how to ease and the like. Y'know, get some of the basics down. From the looks of just this ONE animation I can tell that if you put your mind to it, you could end up being really good.

One fateful day, a man decided he would perform a funny walk.

HATERZ GON HATE, he reasoned.

Well, haters did hate.

They hated in the form of running him over with cars from the 40's.

Btw I haven't trashed the old animation, I'm just working on another collab piece right now.
