I know what you mean. When I went to Wizardcon and saw Tom and some other Newgrounds people, I felt extremely awkward, and was unsure what to say. Having people "know" who I was when I had never seen them before in my life was also a little surreal. This was my first time seeing Internet people, and combined with the fact I am not a very talkative person, I did feel a bit out of place.

However, I think as time went on during the event I became a little more comfortable, so it really only takes experience to get used to it.

Same here, and I don't know of any NG Meets near where I live, anyway.

I would genuinely love it.

I love these forums and how people get along (or not) on here so I could just talk about that and then about real life, because I know there are interesting characters on here.

It really is a ...strange experience. I guess it depends on how you are socially, when I went to the meet last week I felt extremely awkward, but that's because I'm extremely socially inept, but then people like Almightyhans and bananabreadmuffin fit right in because they're very social people.

I guess it depends, are you good at meeting new people? I'd highly recommend going to meets though, I put it off for a while but they're awesome fun.

It's indeed pretty fun. Especially when lots of drinking is involved.

I don't know anyone here, I am a tall blond female, and I don't drink or have sex with random guys. Yes I would be out of place too.

When I went to my first meet, it was quite awkward for me :P But once we went to the bar/arcade it was a hell lot of fun. Made a few new friends too.

I don't know if that's true (at least for me) so much as I fit right in because I've met these guys four or five times before. We're tight like glue, man.

As far as the first major meet I went to goes.... I was relatively subdued for most of the day (well, was chatting to WilliWowza since I know him), and only really got to know people properly that evening.... or to be honest, only really properly the morning after, when we were all sitting around hungover in the flat.

But the key thing to remember, is that while you may feel out of place, so will everyone else.

Also, try to avoid talking about newgrounds too much. It just doesn't really work out that well as a conversation point I find.

Back in '08 I used to look at the London meets in the Flash forum and fucking drool over the prospect of going to one. In reality, I'll probably never go to one, age being the main reason. I mean, I'm a fucking thirteen year old boy (like a good percentage of Newgrounds), if I'm still coming to Newgrounds in x years, when attending one would be a reasonable idea then the excitement would probably have faded. In essence it's turning up in a large group of people and talking to those that you know (which is highly likely to be none, unless you dedicate your life to Newgrounds), and seeing as the majority of Newgrounds seem like they are very untalkative IRL I'd say that the awkwardness levels for most people would be pretty high.

getting someone's autograph who's a flash artist or whatever is one of the funniest things I've ever heard. 'Hey guys I got this guy's autograph! He makes cartoons on the internet!'

well it's still pretty cool!

Thing is, a lot of NG people in a room together could either be really cool, or really stupid, depending on which users you were dealing with.

Me, I'd take the risk. I want to go to the NY meetup (closest to me).

I dunno, I guess I'd feel outta place maybe if it was a circle of Newgrounders that knew each other really well. But I'd get over it with a little help from my friend. ALCOHOL!

It feels fairly surreal when you meet somebody from the internet that you know so well, but have never seen before. I'll probably go to a Newgrounds meet-up sometime, but I think I would actually feel a little awkward... unless if everyone was acting as they would normally, then I'd be fine with that.

The reason I'd feel uncomfortable is because that I'm thirteen, and the other Newgrounders at the meet would be like, what, twenty year olds?

it IS awkward the first time around. My first meetup was the mod-meet 08, and I got to meet so many cool people, many that I've had some contact with via Internet - but it was still a funny feeling - would anyone recognize my face, my real name etc... and then everyone just hung around the office for a while... what to do/who to talk to etc. I'm normally a rather social person, with no problem starting a conversation and so, but it was rather weird...

Last summer I was at the London-meetup, the only person I had met before was Luis (whom I actually didn't talk much with during the mod-meet...), but it was alot less awkward... possibly because I was exhausted from a full day of travel, and because there were beers as soon as I arrived to the karaoke-place :)

As for the age-thing; I'd recommend you're of legal age when you attend to a meetup, simply because most seem to end up with a few drinks and perhaps even a cigar, which you must be 18 to legally drink/inhale. Unless you have awesome parents/guardians that agree to hang around, of course. It just sucks seeing people who are say 17 who can't tag along simply because they're not of legal age yet. :(

I think it's totally how you are in social situations. It's only going to be awkward if you make it awkward, if you go into it acting just like you do on NG it shouldn't be a problem.

I'm really excited for the NG meet and I actually hung out with Shikamarana and he was surprised it wasn't akward. I'm very social and don't like to have things be lame or awkward. So it's really what you make it.

Also I'm on stickam a lot so I guess that helps..actually seeing them a little.

I was 15 when I went to my first one. Not all of them are over 18.
