that physical gamestores will be around for? I mean with the growing speed of the internet every day it won't be long until we can download full Blu-Rays in a matter of hours. With this there would be no longer any reason for executives to pay shipping charges so games can be delivered to game stores, and without any games game stores would go out of business. So once again let me ask you, how much longer do you think these game stores will remain open?

I like personally going and getting something I dont like relying on delivery or internet shops etc, so hopefully not for a long time.

As much longer as there continues to be physical music stores.
... so, probably eternity? Used games, and you can't download accessories.

Same.
And i think some day it'll just be like Borderlands, a store, a guy keeping them running and vending machines, japan already does it.

Well this part is true, except for the used games part. Unless you are talking about used games before they were available for download only, which in the end would be more of a antique game store I suppose.

steam begs to differ, evark
and steam also lets me get my games wirelessly
Not only do I not know what's going on, I wouldn't know what to do about it if I did.

They'll be around forever, not everybody has internet access, and not everybody has a credit card or a way of paying for video games online.
Yeah, whatever.

I'd like to see them stay, so I'm hopeful that they stay a long time.

Ya know, i'm feeling some job insecurity from this thread first we mentioned losing a video games from stores then some one mentioned music, then some one mentioned rentals. That's like 3/4 of the store i work in.

After reading this, I'd give actual physical stores about just over 5 years maybe. They might last longer in less technologically advanced countries, but in the USA and UK, they may even be gone sooner.
Which I think is kind of a shame, as I always enjoyed the satisfaction of having a physical collection of games piled up by the PC and PS2. I guess I'll hve to settle for a folder now.

Don't really think so. Phisical stores would be here for a looooong time. Besides, if you download everything, where is the illusion of carring it to your homebefore you play?
Besides, phisical stores dont have lag.

Really? Damn that's pretty awesome that steam lets you transport physical objects like hardware and accessories through digital media. You'd think such technology would be used for something more practical, like teleporting resources and people all over the place.
Seriously, stores will never be replaced entirely. Displaced and diminished, probably, but never gone fully.

This.
And statistics show that downloading games isn't too popular as of now.

I would hate for physical stores to disappear. If everything is digital, you can't really sell it if you don't like it.

gamestop reported large losses this past end of the year. I think the days are numbered for video game shops and video rental establishments. Its just so much more convenient to not have to deal with pimply cashiers who spend too much time talking to you about the game youre buying when you just want to buy it and go home.
damn.

seeing all bad things about steam I prefer the physical shop.
also, microsoft charges $100 for the 20GB xbox 360 hard drive, there only fit like 2 full games on that

Inventions like the DvD are already going down in sales like crazy, blue rays are doing better. I predict that some big, ugly, useless Obama government agency will be created to control most of the sites that allow either downloading or free downloading of games. Soon it will become a huge deal, but people will get smart and still host. But the penalty for it will be severe.
I love you all .. Hug <3
