This is a drawing my girlfriend made.

This is a drawing I made that was inspired by hers.

Thanks. Is this better?
I tend to avoid playing with the contrast too terribly much, because I don't like how dark and blotchy it can get, but I suppose it's better than difficult to see.
On another note, this is, thus far, the least well received piece I've submitted to the portal.

Yeah, well, two people rated it "0". I'll never get why some people can't at least try to see SOME merit in things they see in the portal, regardless of whether or not they like them.

Here's another drawing.

Don't worry lux, it happens to all of us. Newgrounds has a lot of incompetent users so don't be surprised to see people rating your work at zero.

I am well aware that this is crap, but it's my first time doing this sort of thing and it's my first time doing any kind of art with a mouse instead of a tablet.
Since my tablet and art program are out of commission at the moment, I figured I'd give vectors a shot, and so, fumbling around with Inkscape, I made this.
Bear in mind I have never done vectors before and had no idea what the hell I was doing.

If anybody's got some tips or advice on how to do vector art, that'd be terrific.

Doing an art trade thing with Knocturne. I got an Intuos 4 and upgraded to Corel Painter 11 (finally, to the full version), so this was my piece to break those things in. I feel like it's probably one of my best digital pieces thus far.
It's probably best you look at it in full size.

In hoping that posting this will further motivate me to finish it before the week is out, have a WIP still in sketch mode.
If you notice what I'm doing with this, I'll love you.

Lots of my drawings have girls in them, so that's pretty damned broad. I think you've got it, though.

I'm redoing the first digital drawing I ever made from scratch, because I feel like it. I never finished that drawing, anyways, so I figure I'll make something complete with the same subject matter and use that as a gauge for my progress, too.
I've got another reason, but I'll see if its successful before I explain it.

I'm trying to do a damned good job with this, and it's massive (About 3 times forum size), so it's becoming a time sink.

Your pencil work looks amazing, imo try to increase the size of your canvas even more (4000x3000 and up), you'll be surprised of how much details you can pull if you have some patience. Can't wait for your final.

Main reason I don't do that kind of stuff is because there's no way to show it easily. I can put it in the art portal, but lots of people don't full view things. I can make a print, but unless I make a big poster or something, the drawing's likely going to be reduced in size. Hell, even with this canvas size, posting it in the forum squishes it to the point where a lot of my details aren't even noticeable and a lot of my lines look kind of blurry, while the drawing looks worlds cleaner full size. I should start working in larger formats, but it's just a bit hard to nail down what I'm doing with the space in a manner that I'm not losing tons of detail by reducing the size.

Thanks for the suggestion, though, and for the nice feedback. It's awesome to have someone as badass as you complementing my work.

This is looking really awesome, can't wait till it's finished.
I think these scenes your doing are really cool. They're fairly simple but with your style and your characters it has a really cool feeling and a sense of story or something. It'll be awesome how your ideas will turn out once you get to that professional looking stage.

More progress. Base Colors all laid out. Still have a way to go.
I should have plenty of time to draw when break hits this Friday.

keep in mind that this drawing is huge, so it's scaled down for the forum.

I don't really like the way her right arm looks. I'm not sure what it's holding, so I'll pretend it's a cup. If I were holding it that way, I would still rest my arm on my lap.Using the object as support seems almost painful to do.

Yeah, it's a cup, I can hold something like that and I feel perfectly fine. Ugly photographic proof attached.

I like where your coloring is going. Keep going at it!

If you allow me to give some advice, I would encourage you to increase the contrast between your main "flat" color and your shadows! Don't be shy with contrasting shadows, as they more often than not give shape to an image. Shadows are the color zones that give volume to your form, so it's very necessary to be able to discern them well.

Little tip if you want to suggest a night scene: add a new layer on top of everything else and fill it entirely with blue or a blue gradiant. Set the layer mode to "soft light", and adjust its opacity. Tadam! instant basic color correction for a night scene!! I actually use that technique a LOT for my drawings, but I use masks instead of a pure layer color overlay.
