A teenage jewish boy thought nothing of preforming his morning prayers once again. Just like any other day, except he was on a plane. And apparently, if you pray on a plane, you're a terrorist.
I think this is a little insane. Praying = Terrorist? I know we have to be careful, but this is over the top.

Yes, and apparently bringing water bottle on a plane makes you a terrorist as well.

To be fair, the thing he was using can actually be seen as a bomb.

Let's look at this from a logical standpoint, people who pray believe in a in a god who watches over everyone at once and has a zombie for a son. So for all they know, he was fucking insane and could have shot up that place or blew it up any second.

It actually wasn't just "praying" as you would think.
It involved black boxes. How suspicious is that? Did you even read the article or did you just jump to conclusions that he folded his hands together and started praying?
When used in prayer, one box is strapped to the arm while the other box is placed on the head.
I mean come on. Tell me you wouldn't feel uncomfortable if someone near you was doing that on a plan? Terrorists are trying to get as many young people as they can to do what they need to be done. The reason? So it will be unsuspected. Not only that, but also so that they can influence the future of their country into making them believe it is alright to do what they are doing.
a set of small boxes containing biblical passages that are attached to leather straps, said Philadelphia police Lt. Frank Vanore.
How often do you see this? Like the article stated, it is a rare occurrence and you may only see it a few times in your lifetime or even never at all.

Yeah, I think the author of this article screwed up big time by not including a picture of what the young man was using. It really looks like a detonation device.

No suspicious at all. I read the entire article. Those black boxes are a part of a longstanding Jewish prayer tradition. They contain bible verses.

Actually I'd be fine. I would recognize it as a Jewish tradition thousands of years old. People need to be more aware.

With that Christmas bomb, everyone's going paranoid over this. If you tighten up security after a threat, you're wasting money.
And besides, how could you mistake a Jew for a terrorist?

Well obviously they are a longstanding tradition, but the question is who is to say everyone will recognize it?
Here is a picture of it. You can not look at that and say it doesn't look sort of like a bomb casing or couldn't be one.
Here is the way his arm was wrapped at the time. If you saw this, would you not question what he was doing? Plus, he had the box on his head. Now if that doesn't look strange to you, i don't know what does.
While yes, i can say that the yamaka would give it away, it isn't always known and you can never be too careful.

Yeah, like i said before, maybe you would recognize it, but others on the plane wouldn't. Who is to say the others won't think you were an accomplice? People think some crazy thoughts these days, and you never know what someone is actually thinking in a situation that tense.

News networks get all their stories from the NG general forum. ;)
Also, yes that does look very suspicous, I'd probably ask him what he was doing if he continued praying then I'd start freakin out

Now you're slanting it.
He wasn't discriminated against for praying.
People saw him with something that could look like a bomb, and they didn't know better. That thing looks pretty obscure to me. I'm not sure it would frighten me, but it's understandable that people are frightened these day and seeing something off would scare them.
And nobody pressed any charges against him.

I can remotely understand why saying "bomb" on a plane is illegal, but the freedom to practice religion anywhere is in the first amendment. It seems like the flight crew was paranoid beyond belief.

Honestly, people dream up such a myriad of bizarre religious rituals that I don't blame people for thinking he was up to something dodgy. What else are they supposed to think?
