4.09 / 5.00 12,195 ViewsHow cool would it be to write an epic? You know what I mean, like The Odyssey, The Illiad, etc. I've always been interested in mythology and I've been reading up about it on Wiki (seriously do some if you're interested) and I think it would be pretty cool.
After all, mythological history is peppered with some rich plots i.e. deception, murder (and castration in Uranus' case). There are so many ties and so many epic tales that could be told about all of it. So my question is... Should I?
Who's your warden, baby?
If you wrote it I doubt it would be an " epic ". No recents books have been epics. Sure some of them might have been good but nowhere near epic. Today's author's really just can't pull it off.
The most recent epic I've read is The Divine Comedy. That shit is awesome.
It would be awesome if it became a success, indeed.

Well technically an epic is a long narrative (usually a poem) telling of a hero's deeds. So I could technically pull it off but I know what you mean.

I don't think it would be that cool homie.
Yeah, whatever.

Oh you. No one can write epics anymore. Real fantasy fiction died along time ago. All we have are wrongly styled vampires and childish magic. You know it's bad when people choose to call them wizards over mages or warlocks. And the power of courage and friendship become a key point to every book written.
Yeah, there's a difference between epics and a good story. I mean, sure it has cool explosions and a massive storyline, but it doesn't make it quality.
*cough* avatar *cough*
Besides, the last thing we need right now is an epic. Nice simple books are quite refreshing.

But simple books will always be made, epics are rare.

I'm not saying it's bad, just this is what fantasy has become. Bit of a step down from a warrior prince who left his kindom to slay epic demons, borrowing the power of gods along the way. Killing without remorce and getting hurt along the way.
Not, crying if some one gets cut, and being untouchable due to "the power of love."
