.Wav, .Mp3, .SomethingelseInexplicablyLarge, whats the bitrating, and what software did you use to make it, and was there an error in the render that goofed something up?
More info will make thigns easier to assess your issue.

Theres your problem as loansindi stated. .Wav is generally considered uncompressed, where as .mp3 is. .Wav is good for mastering and sample use within the creation of other songs, where as .mp3 is what you will want to destribute or use on this site.
Check your export settings on your software and make sure its set to .mp3 (192kbps rating will probably be an acceptable mix of quality and file size not being huge).

Wav is not 'generally considered uncompressed', it is uncompressed.

There are however variances in mono, stereo and sample rating and such which do change file size.

However it's still a lossless format. Meaning there's no compression. Sample rate shouldn't be changed to reduce filesize.

There are various propitiatory lossless compression formats that maintain the .wav extension.
