Youtube is for the average Joe Schmo. While Vimeo, according to their site, is for people who are "passionate" about making videos.

Vimeo is mostly for high quality video, where youtube doesn't give a shit. I believe there's stricter moderation policies on Vimeo as well, for quality purposes. Good place for some film art though.
