so ive kept trying to import a song into audacity for mixing but it just comes out as like a screech when I play it. I think it has something to do with that it's an m4a file could anyone help me fix the problem?

To the best of my knowledge, Audacity doesn't support m4a format.
Here's what it does support
Just get a converter and convert the m4a into something it like and Audacity should be okay.
Hope this helps.

Well have you tried changing the file into an mp3? I don't know anything about audacity, but if you think the problem is with the file type, try changing the file type. You'll have to do that eventually anyway, since mp3 is the only thing Newgrounds accepts for the AP.

M4A files are commonly iTunes files, meaning chances are he didn't make it (Seeing as you can't compose songs in iTunes, derrrr), meaning even if he converted it to MP3 he shouldn't upload it here. Because I can't say I've ever heard of a DAW that exports to M4A.

It would be better to convert it to wav as mp3 is lossy.

Convert the file to a .wav or .aif or some other lossless/uncompressed format, or you will add compression artifacts.
