I drove to work this morning - not too cold, but it's starting to snow. By the time I got to the office, there were a few small flakes starting to fall. Now this sort of stuff doesn't bother me in the slightest.
However, I look at the computer for a few minutes, to check the portal, that sort of thing, before starting work at 0900, then suddenly I look up and I can't see out of the window for snow. I think that the weather has caught people on the hop. I'm good for now, there's enough food and drink in here to keep me going for today at the very least. I don't think I'll have to spend the night, but in a worst case scenario, I think I could walk home :P
Hmm... this might actually wreck my New Year's resolution of running 1/2 a mile every morning. Still, if it's anything like 2 years ago, I might just help some cars get up my road by pushing them. That should be fun in the very least.
The boss is already talking about letting us go home early. It's only 0920, so I dread to think how bad he thinks it could get :P
So i'm guessing you are in the UK? After reading this thread.
That is awesome how you get to hopefully go home from work though. How far away from your home is your work? Because supposedly so many streets and all that are closed. And i don't know how the whole plow thing works in the UK, but hopefully they will clear the roads quickly, that is if it stopped snowing already.
We got snow about a week from Christmas here, and we had 2 inches less than 2 feet. We weren't snowed in, but it was pretty hectic. Snow going up to waists and when you walked you would think the snow is packed already but you would fall right through it.
As for your New Years Resolution thing, i recommend not running because you might slip(while it may be hilarious for on lookers lol). So i guess pushing cars out would be a filler? Probably not, maybe try to shovel some snow or something to get your blood pumping.
Hope you get to leave early :)
Meant to snow heavy tonight here in London.

You could always run in a very tight circle.
You could urinate on the snow so it would melt. (Did i spell urinate wrong)?

Yeah, near Worcester, but towards Birmingham. Map enclosed for further reference.

It's a couple of miles. I should be able to walk that, should the need arise, but I'm wearing my office shoes, which sadly only have 1-2mm of depth in the treads. Had I been thinking straight this morning, I would have worn my boots with a good few cm of depth to the treads, so I could walk with a little conviction :P

Ploughs are relatively useless - not enough councils have them, becasue this weather doesn't happen too often.

Thats what they said about me running on hard frost these past 2 mornings. I'll live... somehow :P

Pushing cars is quite fun, especially as you can tell the people how to drive. Slowly, keep the revs to about 1,000 rpm, second gear and let the car pull you, don't gun it and wheel spin everywhere.

You're so lucky, it hasn't snowed all year here in Seattle :(
Sorry if it dampens your plans, but I could take some of your snow! There's none of that here..
Interesting. I have never heard of a mod who's name ends with a number. Interesting.

You can take it all if you want it. I have no use for it at present. Once I get home, it can snow as much as it wants :P

Well, myself and kidray76 are Review Mods, while TMM43 is an Audio Mod. Of course, you could take this one step further, by adding 36Holla as well :P
Have you tried yelling at the sky to stop?
It's a great way to relieve frusteration at the very least.

Not yet, but that might be the next port of call... that or move to the pub next door for "supplies"

I suggest the latter.
This snow isnt supposed to stop until tommorrow or later.

The latter being heading to the pub, or the later in just eating the pork scratchings?

Everybody loves snowcocks!
Jesus CHRIST it is thick outside now (in West Yorkshire).
Far deeper than last months snow ever was.
I went out earlier, I sat outside for 90 minutes in the freezing cold while it snowed. Damnit England.
It has been meant to snow really heavy where I am, but it has only snowed lightly with the heavy one now and again, but the great Irish sun (lol, weathers shite all year round) melts most of it so we only have a cm or two and some ice.

A bit further south of that in Horsham, we have no snow at all. We always miss out on all the fun down here. We had a pretty decent amount a week before christmas, and that got everyone's hopes up for a white christmas, and then it all died down, and we haven't had any since.
Maybe we'll get it a bit later, and we'll be snowed in by tomorrow. You can always hope...
Be prepared for the 25cm deep snow tomorrow!
Although, thats what the weather forecast just says, who believes them, right? Ahaha..

That's awful - I've almost gotten stuck in school before. Unless you have friends working there or fun coworkers, that could be unbearable.
Well, if the internet access holds out, we could always have a Newgrounds slumber party. If you haven't posted for a while, we'll assume that the heat went out and you froze to death.
Me thinks I've worked near your way before Coop, at the Eon Workshop in Hamshall, not far from Sutton Coldfield? Or am i completely the wrong side of Brum?
But anyway, i had to shovel snow for 3 fucking hours today at my work so that every other fucker could easilly get out...

Yeah, because with the locals lie of the land, we'll get 10" of snow and everywhere else gets around 10 feet!
We've got 2-3" about now, so I abandoned the plan to go to a friend's tonight.
Although, thats what the weather forecast just says, who believes them, right? Ahaha..
Well, I wouldn't go that far - it's just the extremes of weather forecast are never going to occur in your immediate vicinity :P

Thank god I got home then :P

I have a supermarket less than 5 minutes walk away, plus there are 22 pubs in the town that I work in. At least 16 of them are within 'easy reach', where I can get there by the power of legs alone. A remarkable town, if you can avoid falling into the river on your way across the bridge :P
Sadly, this would involve me drinking at some 11 of them before crossing the bridge. Still, one hell of a pub crawl, before heading home via another 5 pubs.

About 30 miles away, but that's pretty close.

Yeah, I was merely on tea detail, then the boss' son decided it was a good idea to keep opening the window, sprinkling snow all over the desks under the Velux windows every few minutes >:(
Still, as you can probably tell, I was let out of work (around 3pm) and have been at home warming myself by the radiator for some time now. Foolishly, I tried to go out earlier, but I managed about a mile, before heading home, the roads are getting worse.
I'm meant to be going back to Nottingham tomorrow, but I don't think I'll be able to leave the house if it keeps on snowing this thick, let alone be driven all the way to uni!
Fuck. I have shit to get done.

You work in 22 pubs?!

I live at the coast of north-Holland
It's a blessing if even 10 cm falls and stays for longer than 1 day...
This sucks...
Tick Tock
At least you aren't living in a sealed off one of these. Imagine living on so much SPAM and tinned beans.
Your workplace seems pretty laidback if the boss is gonna let everyone leave early and you're browsing the portal at work.

Well, if you count the supermarket in town and the off licence, there's 24, but since the Woodman got washed away and has now been rebuilt as houses, I work within walking distance of 22 pubs, yes.
Walking distance being anything up to 2 miles, but that's tolerable, considering if I walk the right direction home, I can go past another 3 :P

Spam and tins of beans, I can cope with. The problem is that if that's an old WWII pillbox, I'll die of exposure, rather than starvation / boredom.

It's only at break times. I get 15 minutes in a morning and 10 in the afternoon. I spread it across the day pretty evenly :P
Besides, when most of the other businesses we associate with are shut for the snow, we haven't got that much to do.
I like how you are prioritizing pub crawling instead of digging out or stocking food for the long haul. Eating isn't all that important after all.

Getting stuck at work or school would SUCK. There have been extreme blizzards where people have camped in school or work for days. I know work is strict on that and if it's bad enough they won't let you leave. That's bullshit. We're supposed to get another blizzard Thursday, so maybe no school. It's also been below 0 temperatures all week.

1) I'm back home now - stocking up on food isn't that important any more :P
2) We have supplies there anyway. Tea, coffee, milk, sugar, breakfast cereals, biscuits and we work next door to the farm shop, so we can get access to fruit and veg. Plus the supermarket is just down the road, so I'm prepared.
3) The pubs are probably the best option, because a packet of Pork Scratchings is a great way to build up the essential carbs that you will need for a "wilderness trek" back home.
4) It's snowed so much now that I might be able to avoid work for another day.

I can think of a better place to get snowed in. Hence the pub preparations.
