-History lesson time!-
During the Roman Empire, Rome was in a state of conflict that was before the East-West split and Barbarian invasions. Known as the Crisis of the Third Century. During this time 2 factions have split from the Roman Empire, dividing Rome into 3.
One break away faction is called the Gallic Empire, because it was the provinces of Gaul, Iberia, and Roman Britain. And was founded by Postumus, the first Gallic Emperor. It had its own senate and consuls.
The other break away faction is called the Palmyrene Empire, because its capital was the ancient city of Palmyra, it was lead by the Queen Zenobia. In 269, she conquered Egypt expelling the Roman prefect of Egypt, Tenagino Probus, whom she beheaded when he attempted a recapture. She then proclaimed herself Queen of Egypt also.
Zenobia with her large army made expeditions and conquered Asia Minor as far as Ancyra or Ankara and Chalcedon, then to Syria, Palestine, and Lebanon. In her short lived empire, Zenobia took the vital trade routes in these areas from the Romans. She was known as a "Warrior Queen".
So, I must ask you, Dont you think shes an Impressive person and very noteworthy and should be remembered like other figures in History?
Here is a map showing the 3 empires (not including the Sassanid Persian Empire, witch was a superpower then btw)

Zenobia is not as popular name as Cleopatra. The name Cleopatra is more catchy, while Zenobia sounds more like a virus or a drug. Many historical figures havent been recognised becuase of this.

It's all in the name man. Alexander the Great forever!
First blood! First topic of 2010!
KC Green has just won my heart.
Kogey made a sig, but it was too much for me to handle.

Untrue. Haven't you ever heard of the Great Viagrus who led the Romans to victory against the mighty Advilians?
oh shut the fuck up it's late.
Zenobia is described as being beautiful as well as smart. she enjoyed drinking, and hunting, and riding horses. She was also well educated.

Well first off your pointing out a...while interesting topic, a really insignificant piece of history. The roman empire split, divided...fell. Other than the main two halves, western and eastern, the rest are just summarized up as lost territories. As obviously Egypt would have been reclaimed eventually because Roman power was not as it was.
And second off, shes a fuckin woman. Of course historians throughout the ages would play down a woman egyptian usurper of roman power.
Good find though, if you look around you will also find that she was of Nubian ancestry and not entirely egyptian persay.

This was before the fall of the Roman Empire, the Gallic Empire and Palmyrene Empire were both reabsorbed into the Roman empire, this was all before Rome was divided into East and West.

I don't know, Joan of Arc, Cleopatra, Cathrine the great and other Women leaders are well known.
Good find though, if you look around you will also find that she was of Nubian ancestry and not entirely egyptian persay.
She was from Palmyra, an ancient city in Syria of mixed Semetic and Arabic origins, while she also had some Egyptian blood, it was probably more Greek colonial than Native Egyptian. Though she could speak Egyptian, so I don't know. She was far from the Nubians, who were like Egyptians but were black and lived south of Egypt.

People don't care about history that isn't taught in school.
Cleopatra, for whatever reason, is taught about in school. Zenobia wasn't.
Thus, people don't know about her.
the Gauls (next to the Romans obviously) were the only thing worth mentioning

What do you mean? Are you saying the only thing interesting in my thread was the Gauls and Romans?

Because nobody likes history. Learn a few figures then move on with life.
'Tis a sad truth
